This is a true life story. It all began recently on the 6th of August, 2022. My son Samuel woke up in the mid night of Saturday, clucthing his stomach, and complaining of an acute pains inside his tummy.
On Sunday morning, I quickly rushed to a nearby chemist store and procured some pain relieve medicines, and administered it to him. We had thought that the medicine will stop or even relieve the pains, but to no avail.
As time ticks, the pains intensified to the extent that he could neither stand up nor walk. I have to rushed him to nearby clinic for urgent medical attention. On getting there, the doctor examined my son manually and concluded that he was having an already swollen appendix. He opined that if something urgent was not done, the appendix will Burst and the consequences will not be palatable.
The Doctor said that the only option left for us was to do a surgical operation and remove the appendix. I questioned his capacity to carry out such SURGRY in his facility, to the best of my knowledge, he is not a Surgeon. He admitted of not being a surgeon but said that if we negotiate well, he will go and bring an experienced surgeon to perform the surgery there in his clinic. He added that he has been using the surgeon to perform some surgical operations in the past. He told me that the same surgeon performed an operation on a 65 year old man here in his facility just two weeks ago. Even though I was left with no other choice at that particular point in time, I become a little bit relaxed by what he said.
Here I am panicking and afraid that if we delay further the appendix may burst and the worst may happen. So, I was left with no choice than to consent that he should go and get the surgeon for the operation. He went and brought in the surgeon, an old man in his 70s or 80s. I enquired from the man, are you the surgeon? he answered in affirmative and assured me that everything will be fine.
So, we negotiated the cost. I was charged the sum of two hundred thousand naira ( #200,000). that was about $500 US dollars. I paid the money, and my son was stretched into an ill equiped theater. The operation lasted for two hours. Some minutes later, my son was stretched out to a private word, it took some hours for the anaesthesia to ware off.
Three days after words, my son began to have serious diarrhea. He was stooling more than seven times in a day. To worsting his situation, as someone that just undergo an appendix SURGRY, he was denied water and foods.
Five days after, the stooling increased in intensity. It now done on the doctor and the surgeon that things are falling apart and centre could no longer hold. So, the doctor, whom himself works in a Government General Hospital, but managed a private clinic, now consulted a REAL surgeon, who is a colleague at the general hospital were he works.
Then, my son was rushed to the general hospital and was admitted into an emergency ward. Some drugs was administered to him through drips to stabilize him. Series of tests, both for blood, stool was conducted along with repeated X-RAYs, Altra-sound scans were repeatedly conducted to ascertain the main course of the the excessive stooling.
While the tests, scans and X-rays were being conducted. Serious antibiotic medications were given to him possibly to see if the stooling could be stopped and a case of carring out another SURGRY may be averted.
Unfortunately, my son who have spent five days in the first hospital without foods or water except drips has to spent another two weeks in the same condition in the general hospital. At last, the series of test results show that his case was that of a complicated STUMP APPENDIX. This meant that the first surgeon who carried out a SURGRY without any scan or test succeeded in only cutting off the tip of the appendix and left a whole body of the appendix. According to the REAL surgeon, based on the tests and scans conducted, it was the main appendix which was left un evacuted that got ruptured and triggered the diarrhea.
At last, a second surgery was carried out on my son and the rottened appendix and purses it has formed over time was evacuted. My son was placed on strong antibiotics. After the second surgery we only just spent four days in the surgical ward before he was discharged. A nurse was engaged when we got home to do the dressing, I want to enjoin my Hive platform members to join me in giving thanks to Almighty God for saving the life of my 21 years old son.
