Hello to all! Ancient architecture fascinates me. The variety of styles and cultural influences make the buildings unique. Modern architecture is the crown of human creation. Buildings grow upward and create whimsical shapes. But today we will talk about the building of culture. Many times I met a large drama theater on my way, but I never focused my attention on it.
As you may have noticed, the Drama Theater is located close to the busy city road. The building was built back in 1939. Not the best date in history. But soon in 1954 the building of the theater was rebuilt in another place - on the main square of Gomel. Today it has been preserved in its original form. During the construction of the theater, the road was not so busy.
Painting from the archive of the theater dated 1950s.
The building of the drama theater is a symmetrical volumetric-spatial composition. Along the main axis is the central entrance in the form of a portico, decorated with six tall columns.
The pediment depicts the Spasskaya Tower of the Moscow Kremlin.
But the main attraction of the interior, in my opinion, is located a little higher. At the top of the building is the figure of the ancient Greek goddess Melpomene. According to legend, she is the patroness of theatrical art. It's a good move to put her statue here.
The walls of the main facade are amazingly beautiful. They are decorated with many decorative elements of musical themes. After passing the perimeter of the column, the facade of the main entrance opens in front of the visitors, which is decorated with many elements with floral ornaments.
The ceiling of the main entrance is rounded. It is also decorated with decorative elements and is located at a height of about 20 meters. To see the ceiling, you will have to lift your head straight up.
The building is open to visitors only during theater performances. Therefore, I was able to photograph only a fragment of the exterior. This is the ticket office. As you can see, even a small room has high ceilings and interesting decoration.
Each part of the building has its own separate entrance. According to the architects' idea, each side of the drama theater should be decorated.
In old buildings, I like to pay attention to doors. I like to see what the interior of the doors looks like in different parts of the building.
Scenery and monuments to historical figures are located not far from the building. For example, a monument to Kirill Turovsky. He was a famous Orthodox figure of the 12th century.
Next to it there are signs indicating directions to various cities of the world, for example, London, Berlin, Kiev, and so on.
Since the drama theater is located in the central square, this place is a favorite among tourists and townspeople. Themed events and performances are often held in the center of Gomel. As Christmas and New Year are approaching, a large Christmas tree was installed in the background of the building of the drama theater. This is a long tradition.
The building of the Drama Theater is the adornment of the central part of the city. But apart from the exterior decoration, this place is the creative and spiritual engine of the city and the region. Gomel Drama Theater is the place where creativity is born.
