I am a fractal artist who does 2D and 3D work in the fractal art program Apophysis 2.09, and this resulted from a day in which I was working with the math of curves and spheres and spheroids, using the iterative power of fractal geometry to create a figure from that math.
A lot that goes into and comes out of a fractal in Apophysis 2.09 has to do with which of its 700 palettes and the choice of gradient within each of those that you use. This particular fractal figure has a siblings that look completely different -- each set of colors and shades brings out different sections of the figures plotted mathematically on the graph.
In this case, I chose a palette with just red and blue -- maximum contrast between primary colors that are not drawn in such a way that will make a blend of purple. Apophysis 2.09 is incredibly precise with its millions of iterations drawn from the available math per second -- RARELY is there color blend unless somehow the math permits it, and there are things I can do in post-processing as well.
But this I did not do anything with but render it on black ... it was quite enough in the way the two colors contrasted. Enjoy!
