I get all manners of "garbage" pouring into my inbox, every day... perhaps the "reward" for having had the same online identity since 1995.
Most Email is Advertising... well, DUH!
As most people no doubt are aware, the vast majority of email amounts to a sales pitch of some kind. In fact, today the only "real" email I got was one from a friend sending me a link to a favorite YouTube music channel, and one from an admin at the local electric company, confirming that they had closed our old electric account with just my name on it, and reopened the account in name of both me and Mrs. Denmarkguy.
Why it couldn't simply be changed as an edit escapes me, but they have their systems, and I honor that. The good news is that we now formally get a low income old people discount on our electricity. Seriously, that's a good thing. Every penny counts, these days!
But I'm digressing...
Behold Our VALUABLE (and Expensive!) Workshop!
Having been around the "Self-development workshop circuit" for much of my adult life, I have developed a healthy dose of cynicism/skepticism.
Sadly, it is warranted, because the vast majority of (often quite expensive) advice and guidance actually tells people pretty much nothing.
One fellow workshop goer and cynic once observed to me that "workshops are less about actual LEARNING than they are about 'giving people permission' to do what they already know they need to be doing."
A lot of truth in that opinion...
How To Get Rich, Using Our Secret Formula for Trading Crypto!
Yeah, not really...
For starters, if you're publicizing it, it's not "secret," is it? What's more, if there truly were some kind of secret formula, everyone would be using it by now, thereby rendering its efficacy nullified simply because it would now be average, rather than successful.
It all reminds me of the old ruse designed to entrap the gullible: "Send just $39.95 for our secret information about how to make lots of money online" and the "secret" actually turns out to be persuading other people to send you $39.95 for the same "secret information about how to make lots of money online" you just bought.
There actually is no system, just the implication that there's a system.
But clearly, people must still buy into this stuff, or there wouldn't be so much of it in my in-box!
An Ever-lasting Circle?
The thing I find rather fascinating in all this is the mystery of human nature!
Even as people read the words about and sagely nod to the effect that they already know this stuff, chances are that they are still feeling a certain sense of allure when these kinds of offers show up... regardless of whether they offer wealth or enlightenment or dating success or something else.
In spite of the fact that pretty much none of this stuff actually works, very few people get excited about "a two-year course on how to become a successful plumber."
Most people want (and even EXPECT) some variation of "money for nothing." And we're definitely not exempt, here in Cryptoland... much of the time we're too busy worrying about "Wen Moon" to consider "viable projects" that'll slowly 10x our investment over a period of five years.
I ain't got time for that! Gimme another wild goose chase!
And so, I continue to "round file" the vast majority of what comes my way... promises of a "perfect life" that probably doesn't even exist, for just $399.00.
Hope springs eternal, I suppose...
