This post is not going to make much sense to you if you didn’t read this one. If you’re not from Ghana, it might still be a bit confusing for you even if you did read the first one, so beware:)
I thought the stress ended on Wednesday (the day I wrote the first post)but it turns out more was yet to come. If you read that post, I basically talked about how stressful it was going through my National Service processing, and I was really hoping I was done with it that day. But I didn’t just go there on Thursday too, I went Friday as well.
Unlike on Wednesday, I left Savelugu early on Thursday and I was riding alone so I got to UDS Tamale Campus on time. Remember I said I had to go back there(UDS) to submit my final endorsed form to them to sign and accept? When I got there, I was told the Registrar(the person to sign and accept my letter) had just left for a workshop and wouldn’t be back until the next day, so I’ll have to come back the next day(Friday).
You see, there had been a bit of a complication. There was someone else in the office that could’ve signed in the registrar’s stead, but because the last time I came the registrar signed himself, it turns out according to protocol, the signatures have to match. So since he started the signing, he had to be the one to finish it. So I was told to come back the following day to meet the mam in charge himself.
That was what I did. His secretary took my letter and put it on his desk so that he’d attend to it first thing the following day before I came.
And lo and behold when I arrived Friday afternoon, my letter was ready for me to pickup. I was instructed to make 3 copies, submit one to them(UDS Registrar’s office) keep one for myself, and submit the original to the NSS office which was in town. But again, there was a slight problem. There was no printing press in the area, and I would have to ride a long distance to get to the nearest one. Instead, I talked to the Registrar’s secretary to see if she could make the photocopies for me since she had a photocopy machine. She helped me out, unwillingly, I should add. She said something along the lines of “Because of the ink on your document, the chances that your document will cause my photocopier to crash is very high” as she took my letter from my hand. I’m no machine expert, but I’m pretty sure that wasn’t true.
After everything at UDS was sorted out, I grabbed some sausage just outside the school entrance because I was starving since I didn’t eat before I headed out this morning.
Then I headed for the NSS office where there were other problems lined up for me. I didn’t know where the NSS office was in Tamale, so I went to see a friend, () who took me there. She’s an old friend of mine from school, and it’s been a while since we saw each other. We talked a lot, and since she’s interested in Blockchain, crypto and blogging, the topic of Hive came up and she’s joined. She’ll be making her intro post soon. Anyways, back to it.
She took me to the NSS office, and on our arrival, we discovered I’ll need to submit my letter with a passport picture (which I didn’t have) attached to it. So the next course of action was to ride out again, this time in search of an internet cafe. It was my lucky day as we didn’t go far when we saw one to our right.
We rushed back to NSS office and I submitted my letter in less than 5 minutes. That was the quickest process through out this entire stressful journey of NSS posting processing. For the submission, the guy in charge (in the picture) basically takes your letter to confirm that all the necessary and authentic signatures are there, then he fills in your details in that book, and glues your passport picture there like he did for the others showing. My passport is the one lying next to the correction pen there.
I took my friend back to the bank she works at and left for home after I made a last stop at Tamale Teaching hospital to see . I was there until it was almost evening, and I set out on the ride back home.
