Hello, friends especially DIY ers!
We are still in our long holiday here so i am so glad that i had some free times to do my hobby, making crafts.. What i would like to share to you is one of the hardest project i ever made, yet the prettiest and cutest one you could enjoy or even copy because i reveal to you all through this article how i made it. Good things take times, and so did this project.
Project time: approximately 9 hours, i did it in two days.
Difficulty: hard (for me! This is my first project making flowers from felt)
Skills needed:
- whipped stitch
- basic hand sewing
- blanket stitch
- french knot
- back stitch
Materials and things needed:
- felt fabrics in many colors like black, white, yellow, orange, soft pink, medium pink, purple, lavender, green, medium green, light green, and shocking green.
- soft brown yarn in medium size
- cardboard (thicker and stronger would be better)
- sewing needle
- embroidery thread in various color as the felt
- glue gun
- pencil
- ruler
- black and also yellow marker
- unused thick paper, i used the brochure
- double sided tape
- multi adhesive glue
- chopstick
- dacron (polyester fiber filling)
- soft wire
How to make it:
1ST
I started by measuring the cardboard i have. I made 4 of it around 1 cm width. After finished i cut them off.
2ND
I used double sided tape, pasted on two of them. Then i joined them together until they became a circle. Then i wrapped it with the yarn i had, to make it well wrapped at the beginning and at the end i pasted it by using the multi purpose glue.
3RD
This what i got then i did the same to the chopstick too.
4TH
Then i drew the pattern of the toucan on the unused brochure i had. I also drew the tail, feet and wing. After finished, i cut them off.
5TH
Next thing i did was copying them to the felt. Most part with black. The beak and feet with the yellow. Some body part with white. I then whipped stitch the tail unto the back part of the body and also i joined the wing to the front part, also with the whipped stitch.
6TH
Then i did the french knot for the black eye, whipped stitch the orange part behind it. For the eye and this orange part, i joined them on the white felt i cut before. For the beak, i used the yellow and orange, orange whipped stitch on the yellow like below. I also added a bit of black felt for the beak with the whipped stitch. Next i also joined the beak with the white part with whipped stitch.
7TH
Next thing i did was whipped stitch the white on the front part. Then i also added the feet to the back part. I also blanket stitch the feet to the front parts of the feet, filled inside with the wire i had. After that, i joined the back and front part with blanket stitch.
8TH
I also didn't forget to fill the dacron in the toucan before i closed it. And then the felt toucan is finished.
9TH
Then i drew the pattern of the tropical leaves then cut.
10TH
Also some tropical flowers and cut them off.
11TH
I copied and cut the green felt for the leaves like below.
12TH
My first attempt on the flower was failed. It couldn't make into a pretty flower, pity me!
13TH
But i didn't give up with flower, so i decided to make an orchid instead. I cut out the felt without any pattern. I started by cutting 2 purple felt like below then the lavender for the middle center part.
14TH
To finish the orchid i did the french knots with the yellow floss in the middle. I also made some knots too, i left some of the floss on the top like below. The orchid is finished and i love it! How do you think of it?
15TH
I also cut off the other flower petals too. The pink ones then also the white ones.
16TH
I made the humidicus flower with five petals i already drew on the white felt. First i cut them off then i colored the yellow on the petals middle part with the marker like below. Next i back stitched each petal until i got the five petals joined and the flower finished. Last i trimmed the petals because it was to big and then i got a smaller flower..
17TH
For the soft pink petals. First i did the back stitch for the first three petals. Then the other three (they actually in a same felt pattern). Then back stitched them together like below and after that i made the knots with the floss on the top like i did to the orchid. And this turned to be a very pretty flower too.
18TH
I did the same thing on the pink felt. And all of the flowers are now finished. I also already cut off all the leaves.
19TH
Last thing to do was arranging all the toucan, flowers and also leaves on the hanging circle i made first. And voila this tropical hanging decor is finished...
Look when i hung it :). Isn't it too pretty to be true?
But be honest to you all, the process was really long and made me tired, but now who can resist this super cute hanging decor once it is finished?!?
All of the photos were taken with samsung A52 5G and i didn't use any filters to my photos.
Hope you enjoy this article like i do, thanks to spend your time with me and stay tune for more CRAFT things from me!
