Hemp companies that have been working in Texas might have to up and move their production because of a ban on smokable hemp production in the state.
The Supreme Court of the state has ruled that the products cannot be manufactured and processed in the state even though you can still buy and sell the products, you just can't make them there. You can import but no local processing or manufacturing is permitted. To critics they say that this doesn't make a lot of sense but that's how it is.
Now companies in the market might be having to look elsewhere to set up shop and that could mean the state also losing money on that market too with these businesses looking to move their operations elsewhere. That is jobs and money gone.
Those behind the move to uphold the ban in TX said that they didn't think the production or manufacturing was a 'liberty interest' for those in Texas, but it certainly does seem like a liberty interest to those who want the simple freedom to engage in exchanges by producing and making hemp smokable products. By denying their freedom to peacefully engage in that business in the region it effectively limits their ability to earn a living and to pursue a business endeavor that could provide jobs and much more.
There is also a lot of stigma involved seeing as there is common confusion with low thc hemp products and cannabis products. And TX is one region that is sorely lagging behind on progressing in the direction of cannabis freedom, accepting the notion that free individuals should have that ability to choose for themselves when it comes to plants like cannabis. They might talk a lot about freedom in the state but in many ways they still nonsensically restrict the liberty of millions in one way or another.
