Happy Wednesday, Hive friends. I hope December is going wonderfully for you. Today, I am happy to share with you a little trip to La Rosa Lagoon in Mérida, Venezuela.
This walk began on a cloudy afternoon; I left home with my son, excited to go on a different kind of walk. We took the bus to Mérida, and on the way, I decided I wanted to visit La Rosa Lagoon and connect with nature.
La Rosa Lagoon is located in the Las Tapias neighborhood, in the Libertador municipality of Mérida state. It is a beautiful natural reservoir in the middle of the city, offering an incredible respite from the daily hustle and bustle.
It is undoubtedly one of my favorite places, but it had been about two years since I had last admired this beautiful body of green water. We arrived excited to discover what animals we would find in the surrounding area, as this place is perfect for bird watching.
The breeze, calm, and tranquility were immediately apparent, but in addition to the beautiful view, when we stop to listen, we can marvel at the different sounds made by the birds, combined with the movement of the trees and the silence interrupted by the few vehicles that pass through this area.
As we walked along the fence, we noticed something moving stealthily in the water, almost imperceptibly. We paid close attention and discovered that it was a small alligator, or baba, as we usually call it. We were amazed, because it was the first time we had ever seen an animal like this. It wasn't alone; there were two of them, but the other one didn't show itself as much.
We watched it for a long time. These animals are full of mystery, and I wonder what other kinds of animals live in the depths of the lagoon.
We managed to spot several birds; in the distance, near the science museum next door, we saw some ducks. Suddenly, a bird approached, and I managed to take a photo of it, using some zoom to make it clearer, although the resolution isn't the best. I was intrigued to learn more about it, and when I got home, I did some research and discovered that it was possibly a cotúa.
I thought this bird was beautiful; it has a long neck and a peculiar beak. It spread its wings as if it wanted to dry itself and flew away after resting for a while on those branches.
We observed other birds as well. It was a very beautiful moment, and we wished we had a pair of binoculars to see them better.
Walking around La Rosa lagoon is relaxing in every way, and sharing this experience with a curious 6-year-old is even more fun, because feeding his curiosity makes you investigate more and ends up being a mutual learning experience.
After a unique afternoon at La Rosa Lagoon, we returned home, happy with the experience.

Feliz miércoles, amigos de Hive. Espero que el mes de diciembre esté transcurriendo de maravilla; hoy estoy feliz de compartirles un pequeño paseo por la laguna La Rosa, en Mérida, Venezuela.
Este paseo comenzó una tarde nublada; salí de casa con mi hijo, con la ilusión de dar un paseo diferente, Tomamos el autobús hacia Mérida y en el camino decidí que quería visitar la laguna La Rosa y conectar con la naturaleza.
La laguna La Rosa está ubicada en la urbanización Las Tapias, municipio Libertador del estado Mérida; es un hermoso reservorio natural que se encuentra en medio de la ciudad. Un respiro increíble en medio del ajetreo diario.
Sin duda, es uno de mis parajes favoritos, pero ya tenía alrededor de dos años sin admirar este hermoso cuerpo de agua verde. Llegamos emocionados, por descubrir qué animales nos encontraríamos en los alrededores, ya que este lugar es perfecto para observar aves.
La brisa, la calma y la tranquilidad se sintieron de inmediato, pero además de la hermosa vista, cuando nos detenemos a escuchar, podemos maravillarnos de los distintos sonidos que emiten las aves, combinados con el movimiento de los árboles y el silencio interrumpido por los pocos vehículos que transitan por esta zona.
Mientras caminábamos, desde la cerca, notamos que algo se movía sigilosamente en el agua, casi de manera imperceptible; prestamos mucha atención y descubrimos que era un pequeño caimán o baba, como solemos conocerlo. Quedamos maravillados, porque era la primera vez que veíamos un animal como este. No estaba solo, eran dos, pero el otro no se dejó ver tanto.
Estuvimos viéndolo por largo rato; estos animales, están llenos de misterio y me pregunto qué otro tipo de animales habitan en las profundidades de la laguna.
Logramos observar varias aves; a lo lejos, cerca del museo de ciencias que queda justo al lado, se veían algunos patos. De pronto un ave se acercó y logré tomarle una foto, con algo de Zoom para que se distinga mejor, aunque la resolución no es la mejor. Quedé intrigada por conocer más de ella y, al llegar a casa, investigué y descubrí que posiblemente sea una cotúa.
Esta ave me pareció hermosa; tiene el cuello largo y un pico peculiar. Extendió sus alas como si quisiera secarse y salió volando después de descansar un rato sobre esas ramas.
Así como ella, observamos otras aves. Fue un momento muy bonito y hubiésemos querido tener un par de binoculares para verlas mejor.
Caminar por la laguna La Rosa es relajante en todos los sentidos y vivir esta experiencia junto a un niño curioso de 6 años es aún más divertida, porque alimentar su curiosidad te hace investigar más y termina siendo un aprendizaje mutuo.
Después de una tarde diferente en la laguna La Rosa, volvimos a casa, felices por la experiencia.
