I just got back from an annual medical check up.
Of course though not much has changed they still expect you to fill out some forms.
At the top of the form it asked to circle how you like to be addressed:
she/hers/her, he/his/him, they/their/them, zi/zir/etc, or Other Please Share.
I circled them all and told them whatever they want. They could call me idiot. So what. Part of maturing and learning to deal with the reality that we all are different is to learn how to deal with being offended.
People can be offended by literally anything. Reality is offensive at times.
We need to learn to deal with it. It's called life. I do have one simple change I think people could mentally make that would make it much easier for them.
Here it is...
Assume the best, rather than assuming the worst.
To clarify. You are offended with pronouns because you assume the person was attempting to insult you. You are assuming the worst. If instead you assume the best that they meant no offense then it is pretty simple to go on with your life without making a big deal over things that truly should be trivial non-issues.
If you assume the best, yet even the best still leaves insult as the option then there is a good chance they were trying to insult you. I assure you the vast majority of the cases this is not the case.
This is yet another tool that intentionally is designed to divide us.
Another is seeking micro-aggressions which is the epitome of assuming the worst.
If all you can do is look for things to be offended by you will surely find them. Yet all you'll do is make yourself and those you interact with miserable.
