Today I like to talk a little bit about Electronic Dance scene in the Netherlands and in more particular Amsterdam.
Although the Netherlands is know for its top DJs/Producers, the enormous amount of parties and festivals, Amsterdam Dance Event and more; the clubs and club scene in Amsterdam was always a bit underrated. Maybe because the clubs where not that great; Maybe because the music styles where not appealing enough; Maybe the government regulations where to strict. Who can tell.
Now in 2017, the scene and number of quality clubs are growing, big time. For years "Studio80" and "Trouw" belonged to the top; but as usually happens, clubs come and go. Luckily, some of the people behind those clubs are not leaving, such as the guys behind "Trouw"; They opened a new hot venue "De School". Amsterdam local government is also helping, by allowing new initiatives as well as providing 24hrs licenses.
Many more great clubs did emerge last year, and in no particular order in general, but in order of my personal preference, I list some of the best clubs in Amsterdam. Just click the club names for links to the (English version) clubs website.
- De School - maybe the most underground club in Amsterdam with great lineups, crowed relatively young
- Shelter - very cool and hip club with generally good lineups
- Radion - bit on the outside of Amsterdam, but for sure an interesting club to visit and party
- Claire - the new owners transformed the former Studio80 in yet another great club
- Warehouse - not a real club, but a party place with most weekends parties
- Thuishaven - an outdoor club similar to a festival, open every Sunday, even in winter (tents and indoor room)
