VISUALS: Gradually shifting from a grey, blue-ish, orange sky to pitch dark with emerging lights coming from the homes on the other side of the canal, opposite one of my living room windows.
AUDIO: From clear distinct sounds to dreamy undertones accompanied by this bass with such low frequencies, the vibrations can almost be counted. Abstract, experimental (but not too much), sounds in many shapes and forms, with here and there some melodies produced by a piano. Dreamcatchers, sea, crows, sheep, metal, concrete, black/white, colours... all visualisations that 'came' to me while listening to the entire album. My brains: In overdrive with de-stressing mode full on enabled.
Not an easy listening album, but an album that helped me to wind down big time. Not sure when it was, but with headphones on and volume pretty loud, I phased out to come back a few tracks into the next album. A powernap, some would say, but I think it was a tat longer than a pure powernap. But that's beside the point. The point I want to make is that after phasing in again, I was super curious about what I missed. Had to skip back to the beginning of the album, not knowing where I left planet earth.
To be honest, am not sure how often I will listen to this album, but it got a 'like' spot in my Spotify. As mentioned already, it is not a too easy album, hence 'we' must be in the mood to be able to digest all the sounds.
It was middle to late afternoon today I learned about this album. An album just published (4 days ago); An interview just published (a few hours ago). An artist name I don't know: Albert van Abbe. A veteran with more than 20 years of music history. A Dutch guy. Supposedly playing harder techno sets.
Abstract and Techno? When combined in the same artist, usually one that I want to explore. Can't really comment yet on his techno stuff, but skipping through a recent multi-hour set recording, made me stop my office work and start absorbing the album.
Now I know for sure, I also want to spend time going through his techno stuff. Added to that the notion that one or two recordings are made with some other names that I highly respect. Another reason to spend more time in discovering Albert's work.
While listening to the album, though I had my own visuals going nuts, the thought didn't leave my mind this album perfectly fit some visual art project. And then I found this...
...the sounds makes perfect sense! Now I need to get myself some big ass projector to get the visuals on my walls and ceiling! If you have one, go with the YT one. If you are a bit more a daredevil: First listen to the audio-only version on Spotify!
All those who don't have a Spotify account. Not to worry, you can create one for free. In 'free' mode you have some fewer features available to you, but all you don't miss.
She Done it Again!
Who?
She!
Kè?
This one: @mipiano/ncvgbzst
Vangelis! A musical piece I know quite well. The main theme of the movie 'Missing'. Not sure if I have ever seen the movie, maybe...maybe not. But I own the album and played it many many times back in the days! Such a beautiful composition!
MiPiano did it! No orchestral sounds like in the original, but a beautiful piano-only version in which she managed to keep the dynamics that characterises the original so much. Pretty cool how she is able to bring across this power and energy. I know she has the idea that her original recording was more dynamic, less compressed so to speak, that this may have faded away a little after adding the video and uploading it to 3speak. I can't tell if that's true or just an artist mind playing tricks. I do know much of the software around may not be able to keep the raw sounds but like compressions. And we all know what compression does.
and You?
Yea, YOU! {LOL}
