Every weekend I always expect to be dragged out for a little bit of outdoor fun by my elder sister. I made a trip to Cameroon to stay with her for a little while and it's her routine to start talking about where she would like us to spend the weekend at from wednesdays. She always asks for my opinion when weighing the options, but I don't even get so excited about going out that much.
I always look forward to having a lot of me time at home and getting some peace and quiet . We end up going wherever she decides or where she wanted me to see before going back to Nigeria. The thing is no matter what excuse I bring up to avoid going out, she knows I'm faking so doesn't budge and she feels bad if I don't go out with her, it leaves me with no choice than to expect an outdoor experience every weekend.
Last weekend was kind of odd. I didn't hear her talk about any plans for the weekend and it I thought it cool because finally, I get a weekend indoors. Friday night and she decides we're going out. If you ask me, it was late to go out around 10pm, we've already had dinner. What's the point of going out again? Anyways we headed to Bonamoussadi Galleries shortened as B'ssadi Galleries.
I was hoping to see some paintings or other artistic works there, I mean isn't that what you think of when you hear galleries? Turned out I thought wrong, it was actually big shopping mall with few mini restaurants for relaxation, a fitness gym, beauty salons and even a theme park. It was beautiful by the way, although we were not able see all the features of the gallery because we arrived late, almost at their closing time at 11pm.
Since the whole idea was to do something fun, we decided to go over to the theme park and find something exciting to do.
All the fun activities there were quite scary for me. I could literally hearing the screams of people who went for a Top Spin. The less overwhelming one there was the Tower Ride.I was as much excited on taking that ride for the first time as I was nervous about it, because I wasn't sure my Acrophobia will do me any favor when I get up there. My fear of heights was really giving me anxiety but I wanted to face my fears and my sister was crazily hyping me up, so I got my ticket and settled in for the ride.
Getting over to the giant tower, I noticed that I was the only one who wanted to go for a ride. It really killed my high spirits because there was no way I would ride alone. I'll probably not make it out without fainting out of fear. The people around didn't seem so interested in riding or maybe they might have taken the ride before we arrived, whatever the case. I had to wait for up to 20 minutes before few people came to join me, it kinda put me at ease. The problem started when the ride operator was putting on our safety straps, I was sweating really hard because I was also scared of tight spaces. After my strap was fixed, I asked him to unstrap me and let me use the bathroom to get more ease before the ride starts, now I had to make others wait.
When I came back, I felt very much okay and I stayed put for the ride. It wasn't really scary when the ride goes up, the scary part was each time it drops, I felt like my heart sinks into my stomach and I had to close my eyes really tight. The ride duration was the longest 2 minutes of my life, I was just praying for it to end sooner. I will be going for another tower ride in the future but not until I have recovered from the first one.
After the ride, we went to one of the restaurants to get something to eat again, I was quite hungry after the whole exercise.
I got my menu and everything was in French, I couldn't understand it, so I had my sister explain it to me and suggest the best one. She suggested I get 'Poulet DG'.
It's a popular Cameroonian dish of chicken pieces and ripe plantains, in accompaniment with vegetables such as onions, bell peppers, ginger, garlic and other seasonings. The taste was awesome, I couldn't get enough. The chicken was tender and properly marinated, I could get a hint of all the distinct flavors in it.
The only thing I didn't understand was why they called it 'Poulet DG'. When translated in English, it means Chicken for the General Manager. So what, I am the General manager now?
Next up was the dessert. I decided to go for the mint flavored ice cream because I've heard a lot of people saying they didn't like it, I didn't want to jump into conclusions, so I gave it a try.
Honestly, I didn't enjoy it that much and I was happy it didn't come with the mint leaves because it would have made it worse. Next time, I'm definitely sticking to my vanilla flavor.
Saying I didn't enjoy that weekend will be a lie. It was quite adventurous as I got to try out things for the first time. I'm hoping this weekend would be as great as the last one.
Happy weekend to you all!
