The memories feels so fresh like it was yesterday but the feeling never gets old. When people speak of living in the moment, it is a short description of the life of a student. Being a student is a tedious journey both fun and filled with unexpected challenges.
During my days in school, especially my higher institution days, it was always a rush, like something was always chasing after me or I was chasing something. There was never any dull moment. It was like nature was after my peace of mind or probably I just lack the ability to relax.
While pursuing both my national diploma and higher national diploma, I chose apartments a little far way from areas populated by students, the reason is quite simple. In areas filled with lot of students can be fun especially during exam time or night gatherings but the issue is, you will never know who would come knocking on your door during the time you need some privacy.
There are just times you feel like just being on your own and cruising, it is really difficult to have this in areas or apartment with lot of students. Choosing an apartment outside school and in less populated areas grants me this privilege but it comes at a cost.
If you see a large number of students living in a particular community, it means one thing: that area is closer to school which would assist students in cutting transportation cost. Transportation issue can be quite challenging especially during exams, if your apartment is too far from school and you are unable to get a cab or bike as fast as possible to get to school, you might find yourself in a serious issue. This was my situation.
My apartment was a little far away from school, logically it is not "trekk-able" to school. This is a term used most students when searching for an apartment from agents. There are school bus and cabs moving around picking up students but early in the morning there is usually student rushing to get to school which causes scarcity of school cabs.
In order to avoid being late to school, I wake up very early in the morning around 5/6am, get ready for school, by 7:00am I must be at the bustop. This usually works for me. Since lectures starts around 8am everyday. Mondays are usually the worst, you see lecturers taking first period on Mondays are always those with thick skins and they wouldn't tolerate any student coming late or else you want to stand outside till they are done.
Being the early bird in school is never a problem for me, it gives me enough time to be seated and prepare for lecture before the lecturer steps in. Immediately lecture is done, if I don't have anything important doing in school, I'm heading home immediately. Most times after lecture I'm already famished and on days my pocket is kind of lightweight my only option would be to go home and eat something.
My favourite spot in school was a particular spot in my school market where they sell toast bread 🥪, it was designed like a relaxation centre where you can seat, eat your toast bread and also perform your assignments. I so much love that place, whenever I have a lot of work to do, I head there, put my laptop on the table and order some hot toast-bread and coke, it was a perfect combo. Those were really fun and messy days, I must say, I kind of miss the rush.
