What's happening?
Mercury in Scorpio formed a sextile with Pluto in Capricorn today. This forecasts the arrival of new attitudes, ideas and information to push your "improved life direction" forward a few steps more -- and sets the stage for Mercury's final aspect in Scorpio this year ... the conjunction with Jupiter(!!!) -- coming up next week!
So ... let me tell you what's happening ... and what to look for, because these transits in Scorpio seem to pack a little more wallop than normal ... especially now, with Saturn and Pluto -- both in Capricorn. (I know. That makes no sense to anyone who doesn't know Astrology. But I know Astrology, and I'm excited. So take my word for it. Ok?)
This is what it looks like to an Astrologer.
Let's talk about the players
First up, Mercury in Scorpio
When Mercury is in Scorpio, you re-evaluate a whole roster of thoughts, ideas, opinions ... things you have believed to be true -- up to this point. It's time to edit your attitudes ... and the information on which you base your decisions. This kind of mental house-cleaning keeps your mind fresh and its faculties sharp.
By regularly examining your established beliefs -- based on knowledge you have -- so far -- considered valid, and replacing it with updates and better information ... you keep yourself ready to deal with life and reality -- which is constantly changing. The new ways have to replace the old ways for you to make sensible choices.
And what else?
During Mercury's transit through Scorpio, that gets kicked into high gear. On the other side of this passage, your perspectives about life, what it's about, what's happening, what you want from it, where you're planning to go and how you plan to get there ... will have changed considerably. That makes this connection with Pluto all the more momentous.
You don't ask easy questions, and you sure don't settle for easy answers. Where do you want to go with your life? What ideas (and attitudes and futile projects and stale unfulfilled dreams) do you need to release? What do you want to replace them? How do you envision your future? What new ideas and better information do you have (or are you finding!) on which to base that?
Ok, now for Pluto in Capricorn
Where Pluto is traveling in your horoscope now -- at about 18° of Capricorn, you are going through a long-term renovation (about 12 - 14 years total) of the life affairs that house rules. You are re-discovering the assets of power (things you've abandoned to "others" and should never have given away) ... and how to use them for your own benefit.
Any feeling you have of wanting to take back control of your life ... this placement is a major factor in that. (I should do a post on why we are ripe for revolution because of the way the Karmic planets -- Jupiter through Pluto -- are situated now.)
Not just a revolution in government (although that's possible ... and if things don't change real soon, it's even likely) ... but certainly a change in personal management of your life and taking personal responsibility for creating a different way to live. (And these ideas are taking root now in everyone.)
And what else?
Pluto energy is about profound, fundamental transformation. Where it travels, things change completely -- and for the better -- although the initial destruction can be terrifying. (When you are able to assess, through the wisdom of hindsight, how even times of awful chaos, change and upheaval in your life turned out to be for the best ... this is Pluto energy in action.)
Pluto is not concerned with your preferences or your comfort even a little bit. He's concerned with improving you ... so you'll evolve, so you'll be ready to face the challenges of the future.
When he's done with you, you are different. Stronger, braver, more capable, more willing to take risks and exert yourself to have an impact and change things you're ready to stop tolerating. (But, man, can he ever beat the living crap out of you to get your attention. )
What's the plot?
Sextiles are easy. They're even fun. They're informative. They help you work with information differently. They show you new potentials and new goals to consider. They can help you build a different vision of tomorrow.
Mercury sextiles show a time of learning in the affairs of the house that holds transiting Mercury. This new knowledge -- and the ideas, concepts, thoughts, creative projects that result from it -- will fuel the work being done by the sextile partner -- Pluto, in this case.
That work will, in turn, bring in more material to work with -- possibly through new contacts with well-informed people -- people who can fertilize your thinking. It can also come through reading and research ... or just spontaneously. The frontier of knowledge has no limits. And this will further nourish the work of Pluto -- in the two-way flow of energy all aspects represent.
And what else?
Pluto sextiles show periods of deep transformation and improvement ... taking place in the affairs of the house that holds transiting Pluto. This comes from reclaiming power (as I mentioned) using it again to do things your way. This usually accompanies a time of serious learning ... a real revision of your basic perspective on some important aspect of life.
During Pluto sextiles, you see things differently. You understand them better. You "get" the cause-and-effect of what's happening. You may discover -- or finally grok -- answers to things that have puzzled you in the past. Life changes ... sometimes seriously ... during Pluto sextiles.
Putting it all together
When Mercury is sextile to Pluto, you understand causes, purposes, motives, mysteries, and "the story behind the story" unfolding in your life. It's a time of penetrating shrewdness, powerful intellect, and the chance to use what you know (and are learning) to make important, lasting changes in "how life works for you."
You understand appearances are just coverings for what's really happening behind the facades and diversions. Your judgment is extraordinarily fine, and your ideas ... while touched with zeal are nonetheless sound. This energy also denotes strong willpower, creative inventiveness, and intellectual lucidity.
You won't be fobbed off with superficial excuses, explanations, and cover stories when you have something on your mind. This pattern marks a time when you're fanatical about some "truth" -- something you want to understand and maybe tell the world about. And like a bloodhound on the scent, you won't rest until you know you've got what you've been hunting.
Bringing it home
So where is Mercury in your horoscope right now? Where are you receiving new ideas, information and perceptions? Where should you put your attention? What should you be thinking about to make the most of this transit?
Where is Pluto in your horoscope now? What is undergoing fundamental change and improvement? Where are you reclaiming power? Where are things dissolving and being rebuilt from the ground up?
And where will the ultimate payoff for this process appear? What is changing ... and what will continue to change ... when these Scorpio Capricorn sextiles arrive? We've got two more to go this year. The Sun on November 10 and Venus (finally!!) on December 27.
(My chart is really lit up with these transits ... which I guess is why I'm excited about them? What's happening in yours? Talk to me in comments. I need birthday ---> day, month, year at the very least. TIME and place, too, if you know them. That increases the accuracy. But either one will render valid information. I'm going back to work on another surprise now. TTYL.)
Thank you for stopping by!
If you've always known there was more to Astrology than Sun Sign material and the three line daily horoscope in the newspaper, climb aboard and follow this blog. You'll find a world of wisdom detailing how you were designed to work with life ... and why you are the way you are -- all in quick-to-read, easy-to-digest-and-remember, written-in-plain-English essays that offer plenty of food for thought.
Little by little, I'm doing a set of articles that talks about all the elements in your horoscope and what they have to say about you. If you "know something" about Astrology -- or know something about your chart placements, that will help you get more from this material.
If you don't ... well, this is one place you can learn. We all have to start somewhere ... because we aren't born knowing this stuff. Meanwhile, if you've never seen your horoscope ... and don't have a clue how to work with it, maybe it's time to find out. There are lots of "chart services" on the internet -- some of whom produce decent, readable charts "for free" and some are so awful and confusing that even I can't read them easily -- and I've worked with charts for decades.
One extremely user-friendly chart site is here: AstroLabe. I recommend them if you want a simple, easy-to-read chart. I think they even give a reasonable little interpretive reading of your horoscope as part of the package. You'll need to know your birth information -- day, month, year, time and geographical place. Without all that your chart will have limited accuracy.
Or, if you want to get serious and really talk about this, upvote this post and start a conversation in the comments section sometime in the next six days from the time of publication. We'll go from there depending on what you want to know.
Questions about any of this? -- Upvote this post and talk to me in comments. It's a terrific way to build value for yourself and the community ... and it will give me ideas of what to write about in future posts. Believe me there is lots to say about the way The Sun, The Moon -- and all the other elements in a horoscope, all the other components of Astrology -- work together to interpret you and your story -- and what it all means to the person you've become.
About the art in our visual essays ...
Although sometimes the background pictures in our visual essays support the topic and text, they don't always. Sometimes the connection is clear. Sometimes it's symbolic and subtle. Sometimes, there's no connection at all.
The scenes depict landscapes and natural features, buildings and wildlife. They were chosen because they show something lovely or interesting ... or simply because the photo appealed to me.
Our spectacular and remarkable planet is changing at astonishing speed. Rarely are these changes for the better. Few people seem to know ... or care ... or have the will and power to do anything about this. It may not be long before the world humans have known and lived in for centuries is forever lost. We certainly won't be able to make repairs as fast as we destroyed it.
So a few years ago I began collecting pictures of the way things were ... and still are for now, a record of the beauty we have while it is still ours to love and honor.
The photos here are part of that collection, with sincere thanks to the artists who saw these moments ... and with their cameras ... preserved them. All of us at Enchanted Spirit are profoundly grateful to them for their generosity and skill ... and for the added grace, depth and dimension their art brings to ours.
