It has been a little while since I’ve had major issues arise. Almost every week it seems there was something from bugs eating a plant to errors on my end causing damage. This week we had a decent amount of rain so I was not even needed to water by hand either. If all weeks where like this I would like to think most would try growing their own food.
Red Peppers
Finally, they look like what they are called! In reality, they are not as dark as they appear in this photo. It has been raining off and as such the sky was a swirl of clouds. The plant is rather oddly shaped due to the weight of all these peppers growing on it. There should be around 6 remaining.
This week I took off a beautiful red one and a green as well for a pizza I made. I regret to inform Pizza Hut that I will no longer be requiring their services. To say it was fresh is an understatement that does not even do the taste that pizza was justice. It would be quite wonderful one day to keep growing more ingredients to make my own. It will never be 100% grown and produced by me but I have a few more things I can attempt in the coming years or at least next year. I just wish I could have it more often just thinking about it makes me hungry right now!
Green Pepper
I am just as surprised as you are in seeing white flowers finally blooming on this guy. As you can tell from all the water droplets I really was dogging the rain to get some quick shots in before it started up again. I might have removed the creature as well that was going after it. Perhaps that is why it is choosing to bloom right now.
I look forward to finally seeing some green peppers form from these flowers. There might be a dozen or so buds around the plant. I have plans to grill them up once they are finally here. Have a nice charred grill favor right onto of that explosive flavor these things will pack. These are going spoil me in not wanting store bought anymore! Just like the red peppers has already done.
Big Bertha
While it was the last to be added to my collection this year by a few weeks and bought when it was just a tiny plant. It seems it wants to compete with the green pepper. I was wondering what it was waiting for. Nice to see some white flowers on this as well.
I do find it interesting that all these plants have produced white flowers. It is just such a pure color for flowers to be. With all the colors natured could have chosen it was that. I do understand soil pH can sometimes affect different kinds of plants. I guess it’s a good thing they are producing white flowers at the very least.
Jalapeno
With well over a dozen and some of them starting to get decent in size I’m going have some interesting meals ahead adding these in! I did this week pick 2 of the plant in hopes that the others will grow quicker. Overpopulation I think is the current issue and why they are taking so long to mature. It has gotten to the point now where growth waves are starting to pile up. I could have more than a dozen sooner or later if I’m not keeping a watchful eye.
Naturally, I diced up one Jalapeno for the pizza I made. The other one I’m more than likely going be added to tacos one night. I’ve yet to try grilling any of them to see how that goes. I am half tempted to do that as well. What really blew me away was just how amazing in flavor the pizza was with these compared to not having them.
It was also one of those things where the heat from the pepper built up over time. First few bites you would not have even known there was Jalapeno lurking with the red peppers and other stuff on it. It really did build up to a point where I was feeling it in the end. Thankfully that was around when I was done eating. Always great when things work out like that!
Tomato
The lone survivor seems to be untouched by anything this week. I’m really hoping soon with the flowers coming in that I will have a giant basket of tomatoes at some point. I know it will be longer than that I just hope not too late in the season. There are so many places I can use these I think next year if I can get this to work out I’ll be getting a few more tomato plants.
I even want to attempt making a sauce at one point with growing my own as the base. This week while summer is over we had high 80’s degrees during the daytime. Still, quite a bit of growing season left down here.
I am going have to start thinking in a month or so my fall and winter plans to try and keep these plants alive. I have never seen snow falling at this location all the time I’ve lived here. Sure a couple of times during the winter months we will get frost on the grass but that is about it. I’m not even sure what kind of winter is expected. Sometimes we only get two or three hard freezes during the entire time. Plants tend to make it through the winter if some attention is given to the weather.
