Victimization is the act of oppressing a helpless person, victimization is an act of bullying, they have similar processes and they cause the same damage to the victim.
Victimization occurs mostly in schools, among siblings, and even in marriage, this causes the Victims to often feel powerless, and vulnerable, and have their sense of safety and security violated or tampered with. This can lead to lasting mental and emotional trauma.
A similar case happened to one of my cousins, he is always afraid to go to school and he never opened up to his parent, I visited their times last year and I noticed his actions when it was time to get ready for school, I thought victimization only happens in movies not knowing this is happening in real life, whenever I am seeing any movie and I watched the way other students bully just one person I will say this is never possible until I witness this.
This boy always comes home hungry and feeling down, he is always demanding more food when going to school and also takes some snacks to school yet he is always coming home hungry, there is nothing that excites him to go to school, I always notice that he will always feels reluctant to go to school every day while other children are excited to get ready for school, this cousin of mine is so gentle and helpless because most time I never pray for his kind of lifestyle.
One particular day I entered his room without knocking and I met him crying seriously, I walked up to him and asked him what the problem was, he was reluctant to tell me because he would be putting himself in danger, he was attending one of the biggest schools in the city and I wonder what the problem could be, I pampered him as the big sister that I am, I wanted to know what the problem was and I needed to take it gently with him, I pat him on his back and he decided to open up to me.
He said he has been going through a lot in school, there are set of guys that have been tormenting him in school and they have instilled fear in him not to say a word to anyone unless he is ready to leave the school for them, he has been feeding them with his food and snacks, he had lost his self-esteem to them, he had been writing their homework and they had turned him to errand boy in school, I was shocked when I heard all of these because he was just 15 years of age, why would some set of people damage his mental health and victimize him in school.
I was so furious and he pleaded that I should not say a word to his parents because he was afraid of what those guys will do to him in school, I couldn't take it but to download everything to his mother, the mother was just crying when I said everything to her, she was so angry at what the guy was passing through at that age, the next day we drove to the school and report the matter to the school authority and she withdrew all her children from the school and register them in a new school that same week, the boy was so happy to leave that school and he is enjoying the new school as we speak.
Let's assume he didn't confide in me, he would still be going through torment and victimization in the school, now he has developed courage in himself and gained back his self-esteem, victimization can lead to different types of trauma, killing confidence and harming mental health. Victimization can occur in different contexts such as crime, abuse, and discrimination, victimization isn't limited to crime alone.
This act should stop, the victims are going through damage in the body system and the abusers are walking freely not considering what their victims are going through, even victimization happens in a marriage where the man will be the king of the house and limit his wife at any giving opportunity, some men see their wives as a slave, there is no atom of respect for their woman, this is degrading the woman and messing with her mental health.
There should be a law that will govern against victimization, if you are caught in the act, there should be a penalty for such a person and a severe punishment.
