Man, are you guys hungry or what? When those cheap deals make their way onto the Peak Monsters website, the speed at which they are snapped up is unreal. Like piranhas on a carcass! I'd like to imagine myself as being quite adept at using a mouse and keyboard for buying stuff online fast, but we're talking nanoseconds here. It's just the luck of the draw, I guess. But just goes to show the vibrant activity of the Steem Monsters community. So, how long can this frantic euphoria last?
It's common knowledge at this point that "if" you wanna play competitively on Steem Monsters as of now, the fastest way to get there is scouring the market place and looking for cheap deals on these stackable cards. Sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you don't and have to wait for a price offer that matches the figure you are willing to pay. But the great thing is we, as a community, decide the market value. The "tiered" system currently in place allows for the incremental increase in card prices as and when they're sold. Which makes you wonder how high they could go? Granted, the game has been out for just over a week and the buzz is still white hot, but is there an impending "cooldown" period where a mass exodus of cards pour from the heavens, only to be picked up again by the Steem Monsters hardcore fans circling below?
I do love the game and quite happy with the cards I currently own. But, as I'm sure you can relate, eventually we all come up against a brick wall. A certain splinter or powerful team having the right combination of abilities to see themselves to victory to your expense, every single time! It's frustration city when that inevitably occurs, which means you'll have no choice but to diversify. But that costs money and the amount of cards required to level up and remain competitive means keeping your ears peeled for savvy deals. Every so often I find myself perusing through Peak Monsters, hoping to find a "golden" deal on the table, of which I've already come across several in the recent past. But the race to scoop them up is real and you'll need extremely nimble fingers to catch them.
It's also my understanding that later down the line, you'll have the choice of *levelling" up your cards. Meaning, possibly playing through the approaching single player campaign where a skill tree would allow you to advance through the ranks. Sure, that would be a welcome sight from a monetary perspective but I'd bet my whole collection right now that the grind up that ladder will be tortuously slow one. But having the option would be great as the biggest complaint I've heard about the game is the current "pay to win" model. Although it must be said that the higher up you get in rank, the more some calculated strategic thinking takes the forefront. Trust me, it doesn't get any easier near the top. There are already some outstandingly great players at the higher echelons, waiting to tear you to shreds.
So, have you had similar experiences when it comes to buying cards on the market? Barely missing out on those amazing one-off deals? And do you reckon prices will come down first after the initial excitement has worn off and before the next phase of mania is about to set in? At this point, everything is but an educated guess. I suppose we'll all have to just wait and see how things play out in the near future. Good luck and hope to see you on the battlefield! :)
