Nancy, aged 12, 5th standard student, was the best runner in her school, always winning first prizes in school and inter-school competitions. Everyone knew that if Nancy continues to run fast like this, then one day she will win a prize by participating in the Olympics or in a world-class competition.
Nancy used to run every day from 5 am to 6 am in the city street with her favourite shoes for her race practice. Most of the roads were empty in the morning, and rarely one or two vehicles were coming out on the road. At this time of the morning only cyclists, skaters, exercisers, amateur morning walkers, and men and women with fat stomachs were seen on the streets.
Even that day the road was completely empty, the sun had not come out yet, the street lights were on, the weather was very clear, a light cool breeze was blowing, hundreds of birds were flying in the sky, and very light flowers and trees fregrence in the air.
Nancy was racing at full speed, but she was not aware of the danger coming from ahead, a car was also coming from the front at a very high speed, the driver of the car was probably asleep, then a puppy came in front of that car, the driver suddenly saw the puppy and he took a slight turn and applied sharp brakes to avoid that puppy.
But the car went uncontrolled and hit the electric pole on the side and fell on the road. Nancy was coming running fast from the other side. And she got hit by the car that fell on the road and her right leg got buried under the heavy car and she screamed very loudly and fainted, her leg started bleeding profusely.
The people who came out from there also saw this accident and all of them ran for her help, some even called the police and ambulance.
Within about 15 minutes, the police and ambulance also reached, and with the help of everyone, the police sent Nancy and the driver to the hospital in an ambulance.
The car driver died due to excessive bleeding before reaching the hospital, Nancy was immediately taken to the operation room of the trauma centre, and skilled doctors operated on her leg but due to many fractures in her leg, her leg had to be amputated below the knee.
When Nancy regained consciousness after two days, she saw that her parents and some of her friends were standing around her.
Everyone's face lit up with joy seeing Nancy regain consciousness. Shortly after regaining consciousness, Nancy realized that she did not have her right side leg. She asked her mother where did my leg go, when her mother told her in detail about the accident, Nancy started crying loudly in the hospital room, everyone was distraught hearing her cry, but no one could do anything. Tears welled up in the eyes of all the people present there on hearing Nancy's cries.
After a few days, Nancy got discharged from the hospital, but after reaching home, Nancy started feeling very sad and upset. Earlier she was always very happy, now she didn't talk much to anyone, just lay quietly on the bed watching television. One day she saw a news on television that a woman without one leg has climbed Mount Everest with the help of a prosthetic leg and had also become a winner.
From that very day, Nancy made up her mind that someday she too would become a part of the Marathon race by getting her artificial leg fitted. In the evening of the same day, she spoke to her father about this and her father assured her that he would soon arrange for her to get a prosthetic leg.
Within a few days, Nancy got a famous company's artificial leg fitted under the supervision of skilled doctors, and she slowly started the practice of walking. Initially, she had a lot of difficulty in walking with that artificial leg, then with the help of that leg, she started walking little by little without any other help.
Now Nancy's lost courage was returning again and she used to think that someday she will again be a part of the race in the race field.
Nancy started running slowly on the basis of her courage and practice continuously for about 6 months, seeing her courage, hard work, dedication and determination on the playground, her companions, parents, her teachers were all very surprised and happy. And used to cheer up her wholeheartedly, so that she could fulfil her goal.
