"I'm having jam tomorrow," Lilly said, plastering her crepe with a layer of nutella. Margot thought it looked a little like a used diaper. She smiled and put that one away in a cupboard in her brain, filed under useful and amusing things. "

Are you dear?" she asked. "And what makes you think you'll be having crepes tomorrow?"

"They're not crepes," Lilly said, sticking her bottom lip out and then her tongue as she began the serious job of rolling the crepe up. "They are pancakes."

Margo smiled. "Okay, dear," she said. "What makes you think you will be having pancakes tomorrow?"

Lilly picked up the crepe and began to eat it. She looked Margo in the eye and swallowed and then said, "Because it is Wednesday and Auntie Sal always takes me to the cafe on a Wednesday after school and I always have a pancake, with jam in it."

I see, Margo thought. Auntie Sam told me that she doesn't like children eating sweet things before their tea. Something else to put in the useful cupboard in her mind.
