Slowly but surely I am managing to get the garden winterized. Yesterday after it warmed up nicely I got back to pulling mank and mushy plants. The kale had gotten to be up to 4 feet tall and the bugs had gone full colonization on them. I only got half of them pulled and the wheelbarrow was SUPER touchy trying to wheel it across the farm. I managed to get it to the sheep pen without dumping it all over. After tossing it in the pen the sheep jumped on it instantly. I swear they are woolly pigs the way they attack food.
Instead of finishing the kale side I chose to deal with the chard and cabbage since it would allow me to get the plastic pulled from the area with less work than the kale rows. The first half of the kale/cabbage piled the wheelbarrow super high again, this time with heavy wet plants. The kale was not nearly as wet and heavy which was why I got that load piled so much higher. The sheep again found themselves in hog heaven.
The third load got me through the last rows in the half of the garden. All the last ick remnants of frozen plants weighed a lot but the wheel barrow was the shortest stack. I had begun to run out of room close to the fence in the sheep pen so I had to throw the stuff over the piles I had made.
With the ick all pulled I was able to get the plastic pulled and piled up at the top corner. I try to put all the plastic in the corner so when it comes time to till in the spring I am not moving super heavy piles of plastic.
The last thing for the day was to get the irrigation line rolled and the ends and stakes stored. The drip lines would be fine to freeze as the line is rated for freeze expansion and contraction but I prefer to have it all empty and rolled.
In the morning I got the notification that the mail had delivered and I went out and got my #NaNoWriMo swag from my donation I made on Sunday. Only a 2 day travel time from SF/Bay Area. It may not seem like much but I've already got the sticker fixed to my monitor and the pin on my writing board. It is giving me that little bit of a kick in the ass to see the sticker constantly.
Through the day I got over 2400 words written and am now sitting at over 42,000 for the story. The write ins are helping with the word sprints and word wars. I am able to get a good 10 to 20 minutes at a clip in and then go back to something around the farm. I am just under 2 days ahead of my count so I have a bit of leeway in life.
Today I am going to be getting 8 barrels of grain with a bunch of pumpkins. It is supposed to rain a bunch but it is in the 50s this morning so I will have to get out and get more of the garden cleaned up while it is not frozen. All the house plants need to be hauled out on the deck to get a good watering or just let them get rained on today which should do the trick.
My #Rabona team is plugging along pretty well. My 59% win ratio has me in the top 30 standings for the game. I am totally enjoying Rabona way more than the other games on chain.
