Small day with steps today. I have been so busy that I have even forgotten about carrying my phone around for the step count.
So what else has kept me busy this month aside from tattoo fun?
Baking and gardening.
I had a few cake orders, birthday, graduation and communion.
Yes that's a screenshot of my picture lol. I removed the picture from my phone and had to go to my business FB account to grab it again.
I am not a fan of the birthday cake I made, I feel like I failed it so I won't share it. But that's ok, we don't win them all.
While talking about cakes, last month I think I had forgotten to share my daughter's birthday cake. I even took pics of the decorations in the making and never posted about it. So here is my chance.
Emma wanted a mermaid cake. I wanted to make it colorful, fun and beautiful using pastel colors.
For all the fondant decorations I brushed pearl dust for coloring. It kept the look pastel with a shine without having that wet look when turning the dust into paints.
For the mermaids tails, I really wished I had a mold to make them as they would have looked better and would have taken a lot less time. I definitely learned what and what not to do here.
To make them roll out a sausage shape, curing one end for the tail. Flatten the cut end and shape to make it look like the fins of the tail, using the tool that looks like a shell to make the lines on the fins. Then, using the U shapes tool shown in the picture, lightly press into the fondant in a pattern so it looks like fish scales, and voila, done.
After that I painted the tail like I did the other decorations.
The cake itself was painted using coloured icing and a paint brush to get that look. It was fun making it and also frustrating as it can be hard to make it look even without too much pink here or too much of another.
It was a good experience all in and the most important thing was that my daughter loved it!
Between the two and after that is a mix of spring cleaning and gardening prep.
So much work to be done after the snow melts. When does the fun start???
I have transplanted my plants with Frankie,
Dealt with an attention needy Piper while trying to teach Frankie how it all works. Piper was just as curious at what those plants tastes like. After countless times of telling her to go lie down, she decided to pout.
Turning her back on me and pouting doesn't do much for me so she decided to turn around and argue with me. She's so full of character.
Then an apologetic leg hug... Only to start bugging again about the plants...
So what is happening outside? A lot.
I have been cleaning out the medicine/flower bed. The greenhouse has been cleaned of its old plants, and new earth and fertilizer has been mixed in, ready to go when the weather is warmer. Outside of the greenhouse, the land has been tilled a few times to get rid of sturdy, deep roots. I don't have pictures of this yet as I want to create a post about that another time.
With all this work I had to make time for a little play. I went fishing! I caught myself a nice little bass with a dollar store lure. My lucky day 😊
It has been one heck of a month, hoping June will be more kind as to giving me a much smoother time and nice weather to get these plants planted!!
Enjoy this fine Friday everyone and happy weekend!!!
