Recently I made a post in which I used an image personally took, one of my wife, Faith. The post was about an activity we loved doing together; It seemed relevant and as it was my picture I felt quite vindicated in using the image.
It was a few days later when it came to my attention my image was being used on someone else's post, as their main image. So, in effect, the image of my wife was promoting someone else's post. Hmm, was a problem for me.
I understand it happens, and that images on the interwebs is essentially public domain, however it didn't sit well with me.
I replied on that post asking the user to change it, which they did, but it seems someone else reported, it on my behalf, to @hivewatchers using this link. I'm not sure if that user has been put on the blacklist, however I know they have been warned about photo/image plagiarism, which is not tolerated.
The person in question apologised to me, I'll grant that, however their use of my image, without asking first, makes me feel disinclined to engage with them anymore. It doesn't mean I haven't, I've just kept it to a bare minimum. An opportunity lost for that user possibly.

I mentioned to them that photo or image plagiarism, and plagiarism/copy paste in general, is not acceptable and even told the person my own brother asks me before using one of my images, and vice versa. It's called common courtesy. Between us it has rarely happened of course and no one else has ever asked.
Putting the plagiarism aspect aside for a moment, I believe, no matter who you are and what relationship you have with a person, it is respectful and the decent thing to do to ask permission to use an image, in every circumstance. I believe, between friends and family, it is even more disrespectful to simply use the image without permission as it takes advantage of that relationship.
I have considered not placing images of myself and wife Faith on the blockchain; I have thousands of images I could use instead. Placing them there leaves them open for someone to plagiarise them or create a meme for everyone else's enjoyment, and that's the nature of the interwebs I guess...But cause and effect comes into play in life, and here, and whilst I suppose that momentary enjoyment can be enjoyed by the person stealing the image, what happens to the other, the person who had the image stolen? What happens to the relationship between those two people? Does it thrive, or die, or never get started in the first place.
So, I still load images of myself here, it is a social network after all, and I use it that way, however I don't appreciate having my images stolen, and will react accordingly I guess. Every time.
I believe that I am a fair man, treat people with respect and courtesy unless a situation calls for something different. I guess because of that I expect the same courtesy to extend towards me in return from others. But it doesn't, not always. I shouldn't be surprised I guess, people are assholes.
There is always someone willing to take liberties, to snatch what is not theirs for their own gain or amusement. Taking people's photos without asking is extremely disrespectful, anti-social and selfish. It happens all over the place of course, I'm a realist and know this to be true. But for me, it's much worse when such behaviour could be avoided with a little respect and courtesy. Call me what you will, however image theft is never ok, in any circumstances, be it a stranger or someone who simply takes liberties of a friendship.
Being on a blacklist isn't where a user probably wants to be; That little red number beside your name will have a negative affect to those who see it (everyone) and can be difficult to remove I'm told. I know some new users may not understand, however it is critical that the more experienced users jump on it if seen, leave a message and go back to check...Use for their intended purpose. It will help create a better blockchain.
Here is the link to @hivewatchers again. You can use this to report someone who has stolen your images, or for copy/paste, plagiarism, cyber-security threats, comment-spam, identity theft, spam and other activities that are unwelcome here.
Courtesy and respect goes a long way. Use it. If you don't wish to, please don't engage with me. I do not think this is unreasonable.
