Kedarnath Yatra is one of the most spiritual pilgrimages in India. Kedarnath, the abode of Lord Shiva attracts thousands of devotees within a span of 6 months when the shrine remains open, The rest of the 6 month Doors of Temple is closed because the weather is very bad as there will be heavy to extreme heavy snowfall which is not at all safe for the devotees.
Kedarnath was my Dream destination, which I often used to dream about. Finally my dream came true and God called me to his door. In this blog, I would like to share my trekking experience with you all.
I went to Kedarnath with my brothers. After staying for a night in Phata, We came from Sonpryag to Gaurikund through Local Taxi,On this route you will have to take only the local government taxi; none of your personal car/ vehicle are allowed go. We woke up at 3:30 and it took us around 2 hours to reached Gaurikund. We started our trekking at 6:30, As per the internet and the board at Gaurikund, the trek is 16 KMs. The actual trek is 22 KMs each way. It took us 10-12 hours to reach the temple if you go by Foot. There are 3 ways of climbing First on your own foot or by mule or Pithu. We had decided that we would go on foot. We cannot reach Lord Shiva temple by hurting any animal or person.
Where as comparison a mule takes about 5 hrs, pithu(a porter carrying you on a basket on his back) will take about 6 to 7 hrs, these Options are cost you around rs6000($550) or more than that Coming to the trekking experience, except for sharing the path with the mules it was wonderful! We took a lot of breaks, we were in no hurry to return the same day. There are enough facilities enroute, like Energy drink stalls or You can have food or fruits or Facilities were Available at every 500 m to 100 metre.
In the beginning, it was easy to walk 5 kms then after that climb became a bit difficult because the route was quite steep, but still I walked slowly while chanting Baba's name.
The road was becoming difficult but the views were also becoming amazing,There was a natural waterfall falling from the mountains, it was very nice to see it. You can also drink water directly from there because that water was clean.
Due to the steep route, our energy was totally down and it was becoming very difficult for us siblings to walk together as we were get separated. We were trying to reach as early as possible and spend maximum time in Kedarnath Dham because next day we had to return back on foot. As I was reaching the above, I was having trouble breathing, our driver told me, please keep camphor in handkerchief as it help to increase the oxygen level.
The road was narrow and going & Returning pilgrimages and going mules, Pithu, everyone was going on the same road, so it was a bit difficult to operate the mobile.
Trekking was much more difficult than we had thought. The Watching reels make it attractive and it seems that I will do it, but to tell the truth, it was not easy at all. We found a glacier in between, people were enjoying it a lot but my energy was completely down, all I wanted to do was get up as soon as possible.
The last 2 were becoming very difficult, it seemed like I would no longer be able to walk and would have to ride the mule,Bhole Baba was giving me courage and while chanting mantras, slowly the reached its destination. There were some positive vibes around which encouraged me to move ahead and not lose courage.
What did I learn from Kedarnath trekking? Struggle, patience and it is not so easy to find God.
This was the first time I made such a long journey, so to tell the truth, I could not enjoy the views, but I will go to Kedarnath again next year, then I will enjoy each and every moments of my trekking.
"The journey is tedious and sure to give you backaches but the snow capped Himalayas and Natural wayer falls and Scenery view will not let you complain about anything.*
Finally reached the destination at 2 o'clock, energy down, body fully Exhausted but still feels positive and inner Peace to See what i dreamt about. In the next blog i will show The temple, a stone edifice, is one of the twelve jyotirlingas in India and believed to be 1200 years old.
