Every new day comes with a different experience for humans, and we automatically learn more about life as we navigate through it. The lessons we pick up at different points in this journey are there to help improve our lives by reshaping how we see the world and taking new approaches to living when necessary.
We can choose to turn a blind eye to these lessons as well, but in most cases, it usually doesn't end well because life is all about learning. It's a lifetime thing, and I can confidently say that learning only ends when life ends.
I have learned about so many lessons in life, and it's amazing how life even reminds me of these lessons from time to time. Just yesterday, I saw a terrible scene on my way to church, and it almost affected my mood throughout the day. An accident actually happened involving a car and a tricycle, which left a few people dead, and I was immediately reminded again that this world we live in is a temporary place.
I consider this lesson the grandparent of all lessons because understanding and using this lesson as a guide is enough to help every individual live exactly how we should.
Sometimes last year, I had a tough time with my health, and while I was still taking medication, two people around my house died, and it sparked fear in me. I couldn't sleep on most nights during that time because of the fear of the unexpected. Fortunately for me, the illness passed, and I had to deeply reflect on my life thoroughly to be sure I was living right because when the time actually comes, it will be unexpected, and how we have lived before then will matter a lot.
Understanding how brief life can be has influenced my life in so many ways, and I believe a lot of people who have learned this lesson can relate to these things I am about to dive into.
Recently, someone mentioned that I stopped being ambitious a long time ago, and it really made me laugh. The fact remains that I never stopped being ambitious, but I have learned to be contented with the little things I have while working more to improve my life.
A lot of humans get carried away in the race to become successful, and before they know it, life just passes quickly. Instead of just always dreaming, I practice slow living just to celebrate the slightest of wins because I can't tell which would be the last or wouldn't it be pointless waiting for that big success before appreciating yourself, which might eventually not come?
When it has to do with life, we can't be sure about anything. The uncertainty of life is so high, and we can't be sure of what will happen. In this journey, I have even learned to embrace uncertainty, and it doesn't bother me much when things don't go as planned. Life taught me to always find something to be grateful for even in the midst of chaos.
I have learned that forcing my way through life isn't worth it, and you won't find me doing the unusual all in the name of living a beautiful life.
While reading numerous stories about organ harvesters in my country, I came to the conclusion that if the victim understood that we won't be here forever, they wouldn't have gone that far just for wealth. Everything is temporary, and that wealth will amount to nothing in the end, so why go to extremes just to accumulate it?
I have read stories of people constituting nuisance and tarnishing a fellow human's name just for fame that wouldn't last more than our lifetime. Understanding that we won't be here forever has helped me live a life of peace. It has taught me empathy, compassion, and contentment, and I am happy with that life.
Personal growth has nothing to do with how much is sitting in my account anymore or the properties I have. It has to do with my well-being, happiness, and how much impact I have had on the people around me.
