In our world today, where technology has made life easier for us, unlike in the old times when a lot of things were very tasking before accomplishing, with all these advantages, there is also a downside to it and I will be focusing on our spending habits in this post. The availability of credit cards, online shopping, quick loans, etc has made spending so easy that we overuse these benefits which in turn become a burden on our finances.

How do you know if you are spending wisely or not? are you the type that buys on impulse? or spend or live above your earnings, or you take loans without considering the payback option, and it only takes you running low on your finances or you to discover you have overdone yourself. Stay tuned to this post as I will highlight different ways we could curb overspending and spend wisely.
1 Have a financial goal
The importance of goalkeeping cannot be overemphasized. When you plan towards something, it could be to buy a house for instance, setting goals keeps you focused and less distracted, and when the urge comes to spend, the thought of that goal you are yet to accomplish brings you back on track and therefore makes you have a rethink before spending.
2 Budgeting
Budgeting helps to keep track of our expenses by comparing them to our income, when we track our spending meticulously it becomes easier to identify the areas of our expenses you overspending on and therefore make necessary adjustments, This can also help us save money in the long run. Budgeting also allows us to plan for future expenses and create a savings plan. It can also help to prioritize our spending and ensure we have enough money for our needs and goals.
3 Prioritize your needs to want
There are some basic needs of life we can't do without like food, clothing, and shelter, there are also those things that are really not important and we can survive without them, such as buying the latest model of a smartphone when you already have one that performs same function, this is when opportunity cost come into play, opportunity cost is also achieved through budgeting, doing away with expenses that are not so important but you still spend on, when you spend on something that isn't needed, that is not spending wisely, so it needs to be crossed out of the list.
4 Shop MIndfully
One thing I love about my country is that we have certain markets where goods can be bargained to a lesser price, so taking advantage of such markets is another alternative to spending less, learning to compare prices, and also taking advantage of discounted products, you will be surprised at how much you can save after purchasing, following these tips.
5 Investment and Saving
just like setting goals keeps you focused, allocating some portion of your income into an investment or saving also do, it helps you build a more financially secure future instead of spending all your income each passing month, saving for retirement, and doubling your income through investment, are examples of spending your income wisely.
6 Avoid buying on impulse
One vital habit my mum taught me is to wait 24 hours before deciding to buy what catches your interest at first sight, as that time gap allows you to critically analyze whether what you are purchasing is worth it at that point in time and also helps you make research and get reviews on the product, to make a right purchase.
7 Avoid high-interest debt
Taking high-interest debt can affect your finances negatively, only take a loan you can pay by properly analyzing your income and pay up debt that is accumulating to avoid having a bad credit score.
Spending wisely is a very important financial habit that we all need to cultivate for a better and more financially secure future, take a look at your financial practices so far and assess yourself, are you spending wisely or not? Start to set smart goals, and budget, know your needs and want and when to prioritize. Wise spending is not about depriving yourself but making wise financial choice that aligns with your financial objectives and long-term goals.
