I’m back with you again to share some photos from a visit I made to the town of Siquisique, located in the Urdaneta municipality of Lara state in Venezuela. I invite you to join me on this warm journey through these remote corners of Lara.
Siquisique is a small town located about 130 kilometers from Barquisimeto, approximately two and a half hours by private car and about four hours by bus.
It is the town furthest from the capital, which is why it is also quite isolated from modern development.
To get there, take the Barquisimeto-Churuguara highway and turn left at the “El Porvenir” area. It is on the same route as Aguada Grande, a village we visited in a previous post
The distance from Aguada Grande to Siquisique is approximately 30 kilometers, a 30-minute drive. The road has some fairly rough sections due to overflowing streams, which can cause delays.
On the way to Siquisique, we will come across some hamlets such as Cauderales and Río Abajo. The latter is very close to the Tocuyo River, which we must cross via a bridge to reach the other side and arrive at our destination.
As you cross the bridge, you can see the Tocuyo River with a considerable flow of water. During the rainy season, this river swells and threatens the crops and homes built along its banks.
We finally arrived in Siquisique, and the first thing we came across was the National Guard headquarters, and a little further on, the cultural center.
Walking through its streets, we saw colonial-style houses and the municipal government building, and upon reaching Bolívar Square, we found the San José de Siquisique Church, where the townspeople celebrate their Catholic faith.
Economic development in this area is driven by agriculture and the raising of cattle and goats. It is here that onions, bell peppers, and the finest melons—which are shipped to the capital and beyond—are grown.
The climate is warm, especially these days when it feels as though the sun is very close to the earth and its rays burn the skin through clothing.
The landscape is adorned by a clear, deep-blue sky against which Mount Guacamuco stands out, along with white clouds that look like cotton.
This town is the birthplace of beautiful women, with very distinctive features: round faces, black hair, and tanned skin, like the indigenous ancestors who gave the town its name. However, due to intermarriage with the Spanish, we also find women with fair skin and refined features.
In particular, I feel eternal gratitude toward this town because it was here that I found the love of my life—a beautiful woman with fair skin who has been by my side for 32 years.
That is why I travel to Siquisique frequently to visit my mother-in-law and her family.

Visitando las cálidas tierras de Siquisique
Saludos estimados amigos de la comunidad turística de
Estoy nuevamente con ustedes para mostrarle algunas imágenes de una visita que hice al poblado de Siquisique, ubicado en el municipio Urdaneta del estado Lara en Venezuela. Los invito a acompañarme en este caluroso paseo a través de estos alejados lugares de la geografía Larense.
Siquisique es un pequeño pueblo que dista unos 130 kilómetros de Barquisimeto, aproximadamente a dos horas y media en vehículo privado y unas cuatro horas en bus.
Es el poblado más alejado de la capital, por lo cual está también bastante alejado del progreso.
Para llegar a este lugar hay que tomar la carretera Barquisimeto-Churuguara y desviarse a la izquierda en el sector "el porvenir". Está en la misma ruta que Aguada Grande, poblado que visitamos en una anterior publicación
Desde Aguada Grande hasta Siquisique hay aproximadamente 30 kilómetros y unos 30 minutos de carretera. El camino tiene tramos bastante accidentados a causa del desbordamiento de quebradas, lo cual ocasiona retrasos en el viaje.
En el camino hasta Siquisique vamos a encontrar algunos caseríos como Cauderales y Río abajo. Este último está muy cercano al río Tocuyo que hay que pasar a través de un puente para pasar al otro lado y llagar a nuestro destino.
Al momento de atravesar el puente se observa el río Tocuyo con un caudal de agua considerable. En tiempo de lluvia este río crece y pone en peligro las siembras y las viviendas construidas en su ribera.
Finalmente llegamos a Siquisique y lo primero que encontramos es el comando de la guardia nacional y un poco más allá, la casa de la cultura.
Transitando por sus calles de observan viviendas de tipo colonial, la alcaldía del municipio y llegando a su plaza Bolívar, se presenta el templo san José de Siquisique, donde gente del pueblo celebra su fe católica.
El desarrollo económico en este sitio se lleva a través de la agricultura y la cria de ganado bovino y caprino. Es aqui donde se siembra la cebolla, el pimentón y el mejor melón que se lleva a la capital y mas allá.
El clima es cálido, especialmente en estos días donde parece que el sol estuviera muy cerca de la tierra y los rayos solares queman la piel a través de la ropa.
El paisaje es adornado por un cielo claro, muy azul donde resalta el cerro Guacamuco y las blancas nubes que parecen de algodón.
Este pueblo es cuna de hermosas mujeres, con sus facciones muy específicas: rostro de forma redonda, pelo negro y tostada piel, como los antepasados indígenas que le dieron el nombre al pueblo. Sin embargo, a causa del mestizaje con los Españoles, también encontramos mujeres de piel blanca y refinado rostro.
Particularmente, siento un agradecimiento eterno a este pueblo porque fue aquí donde encontré el amor de mi vida. Una hermosa mujer de blanca piel que desde hace 32 años acompaña mis días.
Por esta razón es que viajo a Siquisique en forma frecuente para visitar a mi suegra y su familia.
