Hi Worldmappin fam! I’m back with a new blog post. I can’t wait to share it with you all! As always, this one's written from the heart, inspired by the beauty of our journeys, the people we meet, and the little moments that make travel unforgettable.
Last Ramadan, we decided to dig up a different side of the Arabian Peninsula. A side full of rugged mountains, turquoise waters, and deep rooted tradition. We left Dubai early in the morning with our nephew for a long road trip to Oman. The travel was 7 hours and 14 minutes on the road to be exact, covering around 535 kilometers. This adventure excites us.
We reached Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah, we're like entering into a world of beauty, relaxation, and adventure. We went to their restaurant to have our lunch right away. Every bite was super delicious.
We decided to take a stroll after our lunch, we were so full and while waiting for our room to be ready. I was surprised by the scenery. The rugged stones and the clear turquoise waters create a wonderful view. The natural beauty around us was fascinating.
We were told that our room was ready, so we headed up right away since my husband was really tired and eager to take a nap. He immediately lay down as soon as we entered, and I didn’t even have a chance to snap pictures of the room before he drifted off to sleep. However, I did manage to take a quick shot of the little token they gave us, a heart-shaped cake and I couldn’t resist capturing the view of the poolside area. Savoring the tranquil ambiance of the surroundings made my nephew and me fall asleep too.
When my husband was awake he told us to get ready because we were going to Bimmah Sinkhole. We washed up right away. We proceed to the Bimmah Sinkhole, an awe-inspiring natural wonder in Oman. Seeing the natural wonder added a blast of energy to our comfy afternoon. We were delighted by the difference between the dry landscape and the vibrant turquoise waters below. We went down the carved-out stone stairs, just being there, surrounded by the silence of nature and the beauty of the water, was deeply calming and restorative.
After exploring the sinkhole, we made a quick stop at a cliff in Bimmah, Oman. A scenic viewpoint along the coast. The view was simply wonderful, with cliffs falling into the deep blue waters of the sea. The horizon lengthens ahead. We took our time to unwind enjoying the place and took some photos. We were lucky that our nephew was with us, he served as our official photographer throughout the trip. Thanks to him, we now have beautifully framed memories from every stop.
On our second day, we spent our time wandering to more of the city's charm and culture. We went to Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque. We were impressed by its elegance, the intricate architecture. The white marble, vast courtyards, and beautiful prayer halls. The design of the mosque, the peaceful ambiance, and impressive craftsmanship left us in awe.
We continued our ventures. We went to some tourists spots, the Old Souq Mutrah and Mutrah Fort. We walked inside the old souq. They were selling Omani frankincense, jewelries, textiles, and handcrafted souvenirs. Mutrah Fort is located on a rocky hill with a view of the harbor. We went up to the fort, it was a bit of a workout, but the panoramic view from the top was worth it. From there, we could see the coastline, the curve of Mutrah Corniche, and the busy port below. The fort itself, with its historic watchtowers and stone walls.
My nephew was picked up by his friends, who happened to be in Oman as well. My husband and me, the perfect opportunity for a quiet dinner date, just the two of us. We chose to eat at Rozna Restaurant it turned out to be a wonderful experience. The place has beautifully designed interiors that reflect Omani culture and hospitality. The food was delicious. It was sweet way to end our day with great food and quality time together.
Oman gave us more than just a vacation, it gave us moments of stillness, wonder, connection, and happiness. Truly, an experience we’ll cherish forever.
