Amarnath Yatra is a sacred pilgrimage to the Amarnath Cave Temple in Jammu and
Kashmir, where a naturally occurring ice Shiva Lingam is revered. For pilgrims
who are coming from Delhi, there are various ways of going about this religious
journey.
Travel Options from Delhi to Amarnath
By Air - Take a flight from Delhi to Srinagar and then travel by road to the
base camps at Pahalgam or Baltal . Pilgrims can either walk or take a
helicopter from these camps to the cave .
By Train: Take a train from Delhi to Jammu Tawi and then drive by road to the
base camps.
By Road: Travel straight from Delhi to the base camps. Travel by tempo
traveller is a favourite option for groups, being comfortable and convenient.
Pilgrimage Routes -
Pahalgam Route - A scenic but longer trek of around 36-40 km normally takes 3-5
days .
Baltal Route - A shorter, steeper 14 km trek, better suited for experienced
trekkers or those who take the helicopter services.
Registration and Health Requirements-
Pilgrims are required to register for the Yatra either online or through
authorized bank branches. It is obligatory to present a Compulsory Health
Certificate (CHC) to certify fitness for the high-altitude trek.
Travel Packages - Different travel packages from Delhi range from approximately
INR 15,000 per person. The packages usually cover transportation ,
accommodation , food , and the registration process .
