We live in society and the reputation of ourselves and our family is one important part when we are part of some society. The good activities by us or by our parents or grandparents make us proud and also become the reason of our good reputation in the society. Think of a person who get well behavior and the respect by people living around them, it's always a proud moment for them. What if the parents or grandparents do opposite of it, the present generation also get disrespect or even miss behavior in society for the wrong things done by their elders in past.
