Binignit is a Cebuano dish made of coconut milk, banana, sweet potato, glutinous rice. Every Holy Week here in the Philippines, we always have it prepared in our homes.
I crave binignit especially during Holy Week but I really do not know how to cook it. For this year, my former students visited me in the house I am renting and they volunteered on cooking this year's "Binignit."
This is my former student on my first year of teaching in DEPED and he graduated also under TVL HE with the Housekeeping strand. He did not pursue college as of the moment due to financial issues. They just came home from Cebu City and I am glad that they visited me here in Tuburan.
As a teacher, nothing compares to the joy of seeing your fomer students reunited and it made me even happier that they visited me here in our rented home.
Just like the old days back when they are still at school, they often come to our house during weekends and vacant hours to spend time with me be it binge watching some Netflix shows, cooking snacks or barely just enjoying each other's company.
I bought all the ingredients and my former student cooked it. I actually could not give you the step by step process of how he did it because we got so busy watching Netflix also. Here are the ingredients for our binignit.
Not captured on photo, my student also added an ube-flavored condensed milk to achieve that colorful ube flavors.
While waiting for the binignit to be prepared and cooked, we just watch some Netflix and took some photos.
They are just some of my closest students since back then when they were still senior high school students under my class advisory. The other lady is pursuing her college degree, these two others had to stop due to financial barriers and decided to seek for employment.
In the near future, I know for sure their employers will never regret hiring them because not only are they NC II Holders and fully-eqquiped with knowledge but they are hardworking and they all have a kind heart. For sure, it will take them to greener pastures.
Our binignit is finally ready to eat!
After almost an hour of waiting, our much-awaited binignit is finally ready for consumption. Since during Holy Week we avoid eating meat and overconsumption, this binignit is a perfect meal for our fasting. It will really help us satisfy our hunger, and our cravings too.
Sweet as binignit, may my bond with my former students be until the next remaining years of our lives. I am so glad I have created another new life-long friends.
To good food and good friends! Ciao!♡
