Hello my dear Hivers of the community. I hope you're all well and safe.
Today I want to share with you one of the best moments in my life as a teacher. It happened back in August of this year.
So I was just back in service after my maternity leave in August. I was aware that the municipal meet was already done. I'm kind of expecting it to happen that I'll be serving in the coming athletics division of meet since I have already experienced becoming an officiating official last year.
Though, I didn't expect it to happen that early. I was reinstated on August 11 and the division meet started on August 26. But, we had our solidarity meeting on August 25, which was even a holiday.
I didn't have a second thought serving for the event. My husband on the other hand was having a doubt, he was worried it might get me sick since it was still two months since I gave birth. But I pursued. Good thing he understood it's part of my job and I'm willing to participate.
When I came at the venue for the solidarity meeting, I was greeted by my colleagues who I worked with last year in the same event. Our tournament manager immediately gave me videographer role. It was also my role last year. One of my colleagues even joked about how the role has become my destiny and that it will not be given to anyone anymore, haha.
I just laughed it out. Days passed and everyday is very eventful. I would wake up at 4 am in the morning, take a bath and have my breakfast and off I go with my co-officiating official from our municipality to the venue for the athletics event. Particularly, I was assigned in the running event together with the male school head I am with. While the other school head I am with was assigned in the jumping event.
Our event starts early in the morning, around 6 am and ends in 9-10 am. We will resume at 4 in the afternoon and end at 6-7 pm in the evening. This has become the arrangement because we look after the well-being of the athletes. Too much heat exposure is not good for them when playing.
During the entire division meet I have my constant people I go with. The two school heads from our municipality I mentioned earlier I go with when going to the venue. They have become my friends back in the previous year's division athletics meet. We sleep in the same quarter. We also eat together every meal. During this year, there is an addition to our group. She's from another municipality. We became close because often times when the morning events were done, we would wait for lunch and eat together.
She's alone most of the time, so we kind of took her in our group so she could have a company. She is one of the judge at finish I work with. She's one of the few who comes to me and asks for the video footages when she's not sure about who came first in the finish line.
All in all I enjoyed the journey again of being an officiating official. It was not easy, we were exposed to heat for 4 days. Carry hurdles, starting blocks, and instruct players what to and not to do. But it was rewarding at the end of the event. Next year if given the chance I will still serve as an officiating official.
I gained friends from my colleagues, and even from the participating athletes. That would be all for today. Thanks for reading this far. Til my next post!
