My mother in law is staying with us for a few weeks to help with child care over the summer break from school, so my wife and I took advantage and headed out on the town again !
The pic above is one of the pubs we visited, Bannermans. Its a rock pub, so I guess it fits the atmosphere, even if a bit creepy.
We started the evening off with a couple of pints of Peroni in a pub called Doctors. My wife gets a discount there with her new job, which is great. Its quite a cool pub. Its called Doctors because its opposite the school of medicine at the University of Edinburgh, and gets all the medics coming in for a pint !
I quite like Peroni, an Italian lager. Not too hoppy, and slightly sweet - fits my taste very well.
Next up was some more peroni and some chips in the George IV bar. I'd never been there before, but my wife also gets a discount there (10% - that aint bad). This is a newer pub, in that it used to be two separate places, and has been merged into one. One of the previous pubs was called bar khol, and I remember visiting it in the 90s when I was a student in Edinburgh. I really liked it because they had drinks and beers from all around the world - I really liked one spicy beer from Mexico that had a chili in it !
It was a quite a nice pub and the chips were lovely. We stayed in there and watched the tennis for a while which kept us entertained !
Next up was Bannerman's. Its quite a large place, and the pic above just shows the part we were in. Its a rock pub and holds gigs most nights and always plays great music. Some friends came in and joined us for a few drinks which was quite nice. We had a few rounds there and then called it a night.
Its quite a nice pub, and is fairly quirky - I love their Jägermeister display, although we avoided it this night, because we'd already had enough by that point and jagerbombs would have ended us !
It was a nice impromptu night out, and was great to get beer at a discount ! It was great to take advantage of having a baby sitter to hand !
