The video asks, "How fast does the Sun orbit the Milky Way?" Brian May didn't set out to answer that question. He was just studying a dust cloud.
My question wasn't so much how fast, but instead, how do you use a dust cloud to measure velocity. Turns out, you can use spectroscopy combined with doppler shift. Simple, right?
I also like how the Dr. Becky thought that it was quaint to include code (FORTRAN) in his thesis, and how that's just not feasible anymore. They use github links now.
