Hello everyone, hope your day is going well 🤗
Today I will tell you how to take care of the soil of a newly purchased orchid. In one of my previous posts I mentioned that orchids don't need a lot of water and a little watering is enough and even wiping the leaves with a damp cloth will be effective.
Today I'm going to talk about the sponge in the root of a newly bought orchid that needs to be removed. I think florists put a sponge in the roots so that the orchid will live a long time without wilting and lack of water, but this sponge can rot without careful watering, so I wanted to remove this sponge.
For this I waited until almost all the flowers had fallen because moving the soil could damage the flowers. Although I was sad that my flowers fell, it gave me an opportunity to touch the root and I started the process.
While renewing the soil, I did not neglect to cut the dried roots. In this photo you can see how dry the roots are.
I also removed the weeds that were in the pot of my flower, taking up extra space and damaging the root "in my opinion".
I'm not adding them back to my pot.
And here's the root. You see the cake-like structure, the sponge in the center of the root, we need to remove it.
Here, come and take a closer look. Here it's clearer. I tried to get them out of the roots of my plant and I removed what I could. I also removed the dried up parts of the roots and the pieces of leaves from the soil and I think my plant is healthier now.
I put the orchid back in its pot, added soil and put it under water. I soaked it all over and put it in the white pot and put it in the corner in the living room.
I think this watering will last my orchid for 1-2 weeks. Of course, I will not forget to check my plant during this time.
Thanks for reading and Merry Christmas
