As part of my wife's birthday gift, she received tickets to a small play, the Sound of Music. But not only did we receive tickets for the two adults, but also for three of our oldest children!
It was a 30 minute drive to a small town with a theater downtown. Parking was not a problem.
As we entered the theater, we see that they rolled out the red carpet!
It was a nice theater with most seats filled, except in the back. Our seats were very good. When we sat down, someone asked if the children will be in the play!
It's a three hour production with a 10 minute intermission. During which we got to stretch our legs.
The children were getting a little restless by intermission time, but sort of reset after the break.
If you don't know the story, here it is in a nutshell (dont' read if you don't want spoilers)
Maria is a failure as a nun. She is sent to a strict Naval Captain Georg von Trapp to be a governess of his seven children. She goes to their home and finds that she is the latest in a long line of governesses run off by the children. She teaches them to sing and that becomes their bonding force, which leads her to fall in love with the Captain and marry him. As this is happening Austria votes to be assumed by Germany on the eve of World War II. Source
During the show, we saw all the children from the Trapp family and realized our family of six children is just one short of the Von Trapp family! I told my daughters that I need a uniform and a whistle. They said "Noooo!" They like Maria's style of management better.
It was pretty special getting out of the house with my wife for a show. I haven't been to a play in over a decade!
Our youngest with us had some blood-sugar issues about halfway though the second half, so her sisters cuddled her and it made her feel much better.
The play was over way past bed-time, but we stopped for a late night snack on the way home for our daughter. She perked right up after that!
It was a fantastic evening and very enjoyable.
Bless the Most High!
