Hello people of this Hive world. I know that I have to introduce myself, write my introduction post and i've more than a week preparing for this, but I'm a bit anxious to talk about myself, what could I say, where do I start? Well, let's start with the basics. My name is Isabel Cristina. I was born in 76, yes, I'm over forty, however I still have more questions than answers about life, as the poet said "I live by asking, knowing cannot be a luxury".
I am from Merida by birth, guayanese by upbringing and conviction. I have been living in Puerto Ordaz, Bolivar State, Venezuela, since I was one year old. I live in Guayana, land of iron, of the basic companies, of the glorious battle of Chirica, blessed land located between the Orinoco and Caroní rivers, lande of The wonderful Guayana massif.
Like almost all of us, I am a mixture of places, cultures and family heritages that define a good part of who I am. My mother is, as we say in Venezuela "guara-gocha". She was born in Barquisimeto and lived most of her life between Mérida and Barquisimeto. My maternal grandmother was from a Tachira family but was born in Tucupita, Delta Amacuro and lived most of her life in Merida. My maternal grandfather was a full-blooded Larense.
On the other hand, my dad is Spanish Canarian but he came to Venezuela, with my grandparents, since he was a child and although as a teenager he lived a few years in Tenerife, he is more Venezuelan than the arepa. My paternal grandmother was from a peasant family from Tenerife. My paternal grandfather was from a Basque-Canarian family, although he was born in Cuba, where he lived his childhood and later grew up in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. They emigrated to Venezuela in 1949 and made this land their home.
Those are my roots, my origin, where I come from, stories that I will soon share with you. But I have not yet told you who I am. I am a woman with many faults and virtues, like everyone else. I am strong but sensitive. Brave but thoughtful. A little lonely but I have friends who are worth gold. I have a bit of a bad temper and I'm quite quarrelsome but I recognize when I'm wrong.
I am a spiritual being and quite existential, but I have learned to take this transit through life with humor and good vibes. I am curious, questioning, analytical, inquisitive, critical, I love knowledge, art, music, nature, martial arts, yoga, meditation and everything that connects me with the concrete and transcendent Being of which we are part as a unit.
I am a mom of two beautiful and great kids (yes, like all moms I think my kids are the best) from whom I am constantly learning. The youngest is almost 7, the oldest is 11 and is a full-fledged pre-teen. They are a challenge on many levels. And in different ways they enrich me and make me want to be a better person.
Against all odds, I have been happily married for eighteen years to the father of my children, who is a wonderful man, a poet from Cumana with whom I have learned and had a lot of fun. I love the idea of being able to share with you, through this platform, my experiences, reflections and learnings about motherhood and life as a couple.
I'm graduate in Literature from UCAB and a Master's degree in University Education. I am a teacher by profession. I love teaching, it is fascinating to connect with other human beings from the desire for knowledge. Being the bridge that allows to expand the mind of another person when learning something new is a fascinating experience. For almost twenty years I have been a university professor in different areas: Language and Communication, Writing and Spelling, Semiotics and Creative Writing, comprehension and production of texts, among others.
