I saw taskmaster's tweet yesterday and he is absolutely right about this.
The global economy has been in a continual state of depression since 2008. The "recovery" has been an illusion. A lot of people are going to discover this fact the hard way when they wake up one day and find out there's no money left—or at least not enough to buy what they want.
Most of the things you've read about economic theory and the government's effort to make a difference are misleading you to believe you are safe. It was designed by the same kind of people who built the pyramids—the architects and builders of the economy who wanted to control the masses with fear and scarcity.
They believed that if they could keep the commoners afraid, hungry, and poor, then they'd be easy to rule over. You've seen how well it works in China, right? People are enslaved because they're scared into submission by constant propaganda—and they work like slaves just so they can survive.

Of course, most people don't realize this. Their government school education doesn't teach them much more than what's on TV, which is little more than brainwashing entertainment meant to make them feel good while distracting them from the truth. But once the world falls apart, they'll learn fast that their government isn't coming to help them. Instead, it will work tirelessly to enslave them even further.
For thousands of years, the ruling class has controlled everything through lies, deception, and extortion. Some of them have become rich off of crime and corruption, but most of them simply took advantage of their position to make sure they got ahead. And now that the system is collapsing, they're panicking. They know they're losing control. So many of them are trying to take advantage of the situation before it's too late.
They're desperate to save themselves. Desperate for power. To stay on top. Even though they've known the end was coming all along, they still thought they would be able to keep everyone else down. That they could steal whatever they wanted and leave the rest of us with nothing. When the time comes, I hope they all get what they deserve. Oh, that time is already here because cryptocurrency is taking over from them.

I'm not saying you should abandon fiat currency altogether. Although as long as our monetary system remains broken, it doesn't make sense to hold that much cash. But holding physical gold and silver is much wiser than keeping paper promises. Once the world realizes the paper game is rigged, precious metals will skyrocket in value.
