Sometimes life just takes turns that sometimes we do not expect, but that make us realize how important is the chance when we know how to take advantage of it.
15 years ago while I was in high school, I met a girl in the most convenient way possible, I remember that at recess time I was walking as usual to have something to waste my time while I started my activities again, and she was carrying an iced coffee while she was talking to a friend as we were not looking ahead neither of us, so we collided, if it had not been for the coffee it would not have been so relevant, but the stain that remained on both uniforms could never be removed.
And if you might be thinking, -I know where this is going, the coffee was a crush-; well it was not like that, it turns out that we were idiots at that moment, and we only discussed whose fault it was, so it was a discussion of two hard heads that would not give their arm to twist, so that afternoon after innocent teenage insults I did not fix that situation.
Classes came to an end and I changed schools because I moved to another city, and while I was picking up to move I saw the stained shirt, now that whole situation caused me a lot of laughter, now that crush had taken a while, but still came and with the aroma of coffee. I kept the shirt with the hope of getting that girl again at some point.
I did not know how to do it, since the only words we had spoken to each other had not been the most appropriate to start a conversation, so I simply waited to see if time would do something for me. On one occasion a girl was interested in me and without hope of getting that girl, since she had not even returned to the city I invited her for a coffee, which I spilled on that date and as I remembered my previous experience I could only laugh, which she interpreted as mockery, as she stained her blouse and got up and left upset.
She was very upset when she got home, and even though I tried to apologize and explain everything to her over the phone, she just ignored me. But I know that at some point she remembered that some years ago the same thing had happened to her in high school and that boy had been even more annoying, she didn't know it was the same boy and I didn't know she was the same.
Even so she knew it first, since when she remembered high school, she also laughed a lot at this new situation and even though it had been three weeks she decided to listen to my apology notes. At that moment she knew that I was that same boy, but when I tried to respond I never got the messages.
I had traveled abroad and didn't have the number I used to talk to her, plus I wasn't paying attention, as I simply thought there would be no chance, as it had simply turned out to be the worst date anyone could have. While traveling, I learned many things about coffee as well as new flavors with other spices and preparations that made me return to my old city to set up a coffee shop.
If I had a great coffee shop, and it became the best at some point that girl would arrive and after apologizing for my adolescent idiocy I could apologize and ask her out, not that it was the most elaborate plan not the best, and the chances of it working would be one in a thousand, but I would bet on that one possibility, since the only thing I had for sure was that she liked coffee.
Two long years passed until my coffee shop became the first in the city, it was so well known that I opened 5 more branches in nearby cities. Even so, that girl had not returned, or maybe I didn't remember what she looked like, because honestly some years had passed and in my memory I didn't remember her face very well.
It has been 15 years since that event, and I have an interview with a journalist from the city where I was before deciding to have a coffee shop, she tells me that she has something interesting to tell me and that she is sure to guess why I opened the coffee shop.
This whole story of hers catches my attention, so I'm just waiting to see what this is all about. At this point in my life, what I would have never imagined was that all the inconveniences with coffee would have led me to this moment. For the interview I put on my best outfit and what I least expected was that the journalist would arrive with a coffee stained blouse and when she saw me she would throw an iced coffee on me and then laugh non-stop.
And you know how the story ends, I never thought that a coffee stain would totally define the future I would have from here on.
