Hello Everyone!
Benefiting from a good sleep cycle, More camping area cleanup, Carrots growing in compost & Time to start planting everything that I can!
Alright, I am going to try to spell out an entry for the day so that I can continue getting back into the habit of writing more consistently. As a side note, I have already done a good bit of writing today... but it was some fictional material that has been in the back of my mind to work on for quite some time now.
I did not mention it in either of my last few entries... but my sleep cycle has been pretty solid lately and (for the most part) I am also able to routinely squeeze in time for a nap each day. It is well worth mentioning, that I still think that (at least for me) getting enough rest and feeling rested really makes dealing with stress and anxiety a lot easier.
Anyways, today was not super productive aside from all the writing... but I did get outdoors early in the day and raked up more leaves from around the camping area. It has been really surprising to see just how much leaf material (and twigs) accumulated around the tent... but it sure has all come in handy for that new compost mound that I have been working on.
The older compost mound is doing so well, that some of the earliest new plants that I saw popping up this spring were in it. I have no idea what the plants actually are... but they may well be some of the vegetable seeds that I planted in that area late last year.
A few weeks ago, I even planted several carrots in that section of that compost mound... and most of them are now shooting up some sprigs of greenery so that is nice. Since it is a dog poop compost (that is not old enough to eat food from) I am going to use the carrots to feed the worms in the mound... much like I have done by planting potatoes in compost mounds before.
Lately, I have been feeling the urge to start planting things as soon as possible... and once again I am stuck on where to put the new plants (or seeded pots) where the animals will not get into them. Thus far, I am leaning heavily towards stacking them atop the mostly shaded chicken coop... until I can build that 'table' for potted plants in a sunny area near the studio.
With the way that the prices on everything keep getting higher... and I having already been struggling with food insecurity my entire stay here... I really want to dial in my efforts with growing stuff to eat. I know that there is no way in my present scenario that I can grow enough to meet all my needs... but I would be happy with just getting a good harvest of tomatoes and potatoes.
Regardless of all that kind of gardening, I also need to get another round of black locust seeds prepared for planting this year by scarifying them with a file. During the winter, I also happened to find another pack of black locust seeds (in my gear) so now I do not have to worry about not having enough of them for this year's planting cycle.
I am still not sure where I am going to get soil from, because the place in the gulch where I was getting it does not have nearly enough left in it for my needs. If all goes well, perhaps I can find a spot higher up the hill to harvest more soil from... because ugh... hiking to the foot of the hill for it and then carrying it back uphill is a bit taxing.
Well, that is about it for this entry. I hope that everyone is doing well. Ciao for now.
