The novel is written about the life struggle of a very ordinary low-income family, of which Rabia is a mentally deranged girl. The background of the whole story revolves around Rabea. Besides, there are many people including mother, father, brother, sister, and Shafiq in this story.
Rabeya, the eldest of four siblings, is mentally handicapped. Her one-year-old younger Khoka is a Masters’s examinee, followed by the reckless Montu, the son of Rabea's father's first wife and the youngest daughter Runu. The six-member family is accompanied by their father's varsity life friend Shafiq. Mr. Shafiq was given shelter by their father in their house. Shafiq teaches in a school and also teaches the brothers and sisters of Rabia.
In the novel, the author also brings up Shilu, a girl from a rich family next door, and her brother Harun. Aaron has a weakness for the mentally handicapped Rabea, and Shilu has a crush on Khoka, which is nothing more than a dream for a lower-middle-class family. Throughout the story, there is a sad account of a family's grief and suffering.
One day in Chaitra, one day, Rabeya is suddenly lost! She could not be found even after searching a lot. Then on his way back from school, Master Kaka found him and brought her home. After a few days, Rabea's body changes suddenly began to be caught! Then it is not difficult for her mother Shahana to understand that Rabia is likely to have a child.
But mentally ill Rabeya’s mother, brother can not say anything even after hundreds of questions! Her father then tried to marry Rabeya but failed. Rabia was secretly aborted in her own house one morning for fear of embarrassment to the social people. But Rabea dies of excessive bleeding! In this incident, Montu blames Master and stabs him to death in front of the crowd.
Police arrested Montu and sentenced him to death for killing the master in cold blood. Although the author of the story does not say directly what Rabia's lust was, readers will read the story or Montu's attack on the master to understand that it was the master who harmed her. The last part of the novel is very sadly presented by the author. At the prison gate, a grief-stricken father and a helpless brother stand in the middle of the night waiting for the body of their beloved Montu!
In the novel, the author explains through the tragic consequences of Rabia's life how insecure girls are in the outside world. Considering all aspects, it can be said that "Nondito Noroke" is an impeccable creation of Humayun Ahmed. It is one of the best novels in the world!
