The Teatro Municipal de Caracas, one of the first I knew in this place and the theater of importance closest to my home, but where strangely enough I have never had the opportunity to sing. I have just visited it, but again as a spectator for some of my friends. Whenever I have been here it has always been for some opera or a gala, for example this weekend I enjoyed a bit of La Boheme, Madame Butterfly and Tosca, all in the same place and I was surprised to see how quickly they can change the scenery. Those three stagings are very surprising, so in addition to being elegant, the Teatro Municipal de Caracas is no slouch compared to other larger ones like the Teatro Teresa Carreño.
El Teatro Municipal de Caracas, uno de los primeros que conocí en este lugar y el teatro de importancia más cercano a mi casa, pero donde extrañamente nunca he tenido la oportunidad de cantar. Acabo de visitarlo, pero nuevamente como espectador de algunas de mis amistades. Siempre que he estado aquí ha sido por alguna ópera o una gala, por ejemplo este fin de semana disfruté un poco de La Boheme, Madame Butterfly y Tosca, todo en el mismo lugar y me sorprendió ver lo rápido que pueden cambiar la escenografía. Esos tres montajes son muy sorprendentes, así que además de elegante, el Teatro Municipal de Caracas no se queda atrás en comparación a otros más grandes como el Teatro Teresa Carreño.
As you can see in the pictures, the building is actually white and very elegant, something that pleased me a lot because when I knew it was painted in brick and the white was only on the edge of the windows and pillars. Seeing it totally white makes me think of those buildings of ancient Greece or the times of the Roman Empire, and although this area has several theaters nearby, none has a classic design like this one. The entrance breaks the circular architecture of the façade, but it looks great. The only bad thing about this theater is its location, it is very difficult to take a good picture from far away, but I did my best to share the idea with you.
Como pueden apreciar en las fotografías, el edificio actualmente es de color blanco y muy elegante, algo que me agradó mucho porque cuando lo conocí estaba pintado de color ladrillo y el blanco solo era en el borde de las ventanas y sus pilares. Verlo totalmente blanco me hace pensar en esas edificaciones de la antigua Grecia o de los tiempos del imperio romano, y aunque esta zona tiene varios teatros cercanos, ninguno tiene un diseño clásico como este. La entrada rompe la arquitectura circular de la fachada, pero luce genial. Lo único malo de este teatro es su ubicación, es muy difícil tomar una buena fotografía desde lejos, pero hice lo posible por compartir la idea con ustedes.
The center of the venue is wonderful. The carpet is red, as are the seats and there are many details in gold, including the large main stage curtain. The lighting is perfect and it has a gigantic, elegant chandelier in the center. I have not been to the Teatro Alla Scala in Milan, Italy, but my wife has, and she tells me it is very similar. There are several height levels to view the performances and it's all in a circular fashion. The acoustics are a bit strange, you can hear very well in some areas and not in others; I was a bit removed from the stage, but I heard much better than other friends who were further forward. The audience can see from any area and that gives it extra points, as many theaters I've been to always have areas with limited visibility, but not here, I think being circular is good.
El centro del lugar es maravilloso. La alfombra es roja, al igual que las butacas y hay muchos detalles en color dorado, incluso el gran telón principal del escenario. La iluminación es perfecta y tiene una gigantesca y elegante lámpara en el centro. No he ido al Teatro Alla Scala en Milán, Italia, pero mi esposa sí, y me dice que se parece mucho. Hay varios niveles de altura para ver las funciones y todo es de modo circular. La acústica sí es un poco extraña, se escucha muy bien en algunas zonas y otras no; yo estaba un poco retirado del escenario, pero escuchaba mucho mejor que otros amigos que estaban más adelante. Los espectadores pueden ver desde cualquier zona y eso le da puntos extras, ya que muchos teatros a los que he ido siempre tiene zonas con visibilidad limitada, pero aquí no, creo que el ser circular es bueno.
The corridors and all the floors of the main area outside the concert hall are pure elegance. White walls, red carpets, many portraits of great artists and my favorite sculptures, of human bodies, although they are in black and I prefer them in white. The mirrors are large and have frames with many beautiful details and there are several sofas, very comfortable for those who need to wait seated outside. There are many chandeliers, but none as special as the large one in the concert hall. It makes me feel good to be there and the good thing about not working is that I have more opportunity to get to know the place.
Los pasillos y todos los pisos del área principal fuera de la sala de conciertos son pura elegancia. Paredes blancas, alfombras rojas, muchos retratos de grandes artistas y mis esculturas preferidas, de cuerpos humanos, aunque son en color negro y las prefiero en blanco. Los espejos son grandes y tienen marcos con muchos detalles hermosos y hay varios sofás, muy cómodos para quienes necesiten esperar sentados afuera. Hay muchas lámparas, pero ninguna tan especial como la grande de la sala de conciertos. Me hace sentir bien estar ahí y lo bueno de no estar trabajando es que tengo más oportunidad para conocer el lugar.
I hope these pictures have given you a little of the experience of walking through these corridors and being in this impressive concert hall in Caracas. I hope one day to sing in this theater and be able to appreciate the dressing rooms; although all the artists I come to see here are good friends I prefer not to abuse the trust and intrude on them, I know that someday I will be lucky enough to be part of a cast here. Por mi parte espero cantar algún día en este teatro y poder apreciar los camerinos; aunque todos los artistas que vengo a ver aquí son buenos amigos prefiero no abusar de la confianza e inmiscuirme en ellos, sé que algún día tendré la suerte de ser parte de un elenco aquí.
