If you have any experience in online marketing and you go many years back to when the open rate for an email was astronomical, to see that the open rate in 2022 is paltry, but the click rate is even less active can discourage most aspiring marketers looking to use email marketing for their business.
The thing is, that the power of list building is still relevant, but how it's being used in today's environment, eludes many who see subscribers with money signs in their eyes.
My first try at email marketing - years ago, before I fell flat on my face and quit to go back to work a 9 to 5 was a time that click and open rates were already declining.
Social media was coming hot and heavy towards the end of my first go round and that was sure to make things even more challenging for those of us that were looking to build a list of subscribers.
Like all things, email marketing takes patience. Takes testing. Takes tracking.
What folks like realized early on in their own online business building is the importance of building a list, but not using the list to brow beat folks into buying something.
I'm going to guess, Jon was able to enjoy the wave of early explosive open rates as he was already doing his thing before I gave online marketing a try.
That takes patience.
What that means, is that your emails are best to grow your brand, create community and engage. That takes a shit load of patience.
So, if you missed the boat on email marketing the first time or the second time or third time, then being up against the diminishing results from just sending sales pitched emails then pivoting to letting folks know what you up to, offering your help, inviting them to your latest blog post, podcast, live streams should actually be an easier concept to be open minded to.
Of course, the counter to that is; social media platforms can now do that.
It definitely can and why it shouldn't be instead of, but more in conjunction with.
That is why building a list should still be part of an Entrepreneur's business solution.
We can't fully escape emails, because there are very few entities that I deal with that does not use email to communicate.
Again, DM's, texting, face time and all those amazing tools that we have at our disposal today are treasure troves. Those are here to stay and will morph into other platforms we can't even dream of.
Circling back to regular day to day life.
I am employed, so I have to use what our employer provides us for the day to day operations. There is not one minute, hour or day that email is not a part of that day to day.
From the personal side, I've elected to go paperless with many of the folks I have to pay bills to; so email will be one of the ways for those companies to communicate with customers. Again, with the full understanding that they also have apps, notifications, text features to reach out to customers as well.
Where the pivot should lead to is using the list you grow to leverage your presence on those other platforms.
Take CLICK.TRACK.PROFIT for example. I've been on their list for years and the team really never bombards their members with emails and most of the interaction will be on the HIVE side of things. If not Discord or Twitter.
And, I rarely ignore any emails they send. Back in the day, I looked forward to an email from them; because there were limited platforms to do so; other than picking up the phone.
Their emails still have impact, because they've nurtured it to be more of a seamless no-strings attached interaction.
I myself am working through that balance of growing my list, which I find a little time to miraculously do and working through the challenge of having folks open and read the emails; but now be open to the world of HIVE.
The former is what online marketing has done for years, but to INFORM not sell folks on CTP and HIVE is where the real work comes in for me.
Based on percentages, I have to get way more subscribers to then get a better opportunity to have a core group of folks that buy into what I'm about and I don't mean monetarily.
I mean loyalty, recognition and trust.
Let's Gooooooooooooooooo!!!
