I have been on Hive since October 2022, which is 15 months ago, and I have accumulated about 1500 HP. I exchanged my HBD for liquid Hive to sell on Binance to meet many offline financial obligations. NEWS has it that the author of 'Rich Dad, Poor Dad' Kiyosaki is in $1 billion debt, which rocks the irony of a life of financial freedom. Thus, I am in no perfect position to state how best to make money on Hive when I am still struggling to live averagely, or at least earn enough to survive. Recently, I thought to myself, If I had all the money I needed, would I still be on Hive? The answer is yes or no. Yes, because I discovered that, rather than beating myself about the rewards of content creation, I enjoy seeing my growth in content creation. No, because I have become lazy about creating posts on Hive (I still make efforts to create quality contents) as I place more value on my health.
Hive has different categories of writers, and I have come across very good authors, while some other posts have not received much attention as a result of quality. Quantity or quality? I prefer quality, and irrespective of the quantity, I'm willing to engage meaningfully. But dishing out quality contents does not correlate with having meaningful rewards—sometimes, not any to take home. As a side note, an author is likely to get more rewards when he posts in the right community, responds to prompts as desired by the author, builds a network of friends, and occasionally receives boosts via ecency. This does not end here; participating in community hangouts such as on Discord and X can attract curators to one's posts. In summary, not all your posts will get the desired rewards despite all the things put in place; perhaps luck and fortune can play a larger game.
On Hive, you will meet authors that are everywhere and in every community. Most of their lives revolve around Hive, and they are likely making enough rewards for themselves by engaging in different activities, such as in communities like #dreemport #hivelearners #hivenaija #neoxian etc. I must admit, I do not have enough energy to keep up with such people; nonetheless, the rewards follow their engagements. For those of us engaged in other activities off the Hive chain, our contents are epileptic, and rewards do not come regularly but are fair enough. This reminds me of a newbie I added sometime ago who remembered Hive when she was financially down. Whichever category you fall into, be sure to live healthy, have peace of mind, and be content with the rewards you earn, which may or may not correlate with your efforts.
The frequency of my contents on Hive has been epileptic, however, which is fair enough as I am least concerned about becoming a millionaire via Hive in the shortest time. But can you really become a millionaire via Hive? This depends on a lot of factors, mostly offline. Only a fraction of people on Hive are here for other reasons than the rewards. Most developing countries like Nigeria are here for the rewards, and this in itself is not bad in its entirety. This could translate to the fact that **HIVE IS A MEANS OF SUSTAINABILITY OFF THE CHAIN. You will agree with me that if you spend most of your rewards on sustaining yourself off the chain, it will be difficult to build your HP and HBD on the chain. This is in tune with the task of knowing the minimum acceptable living standards in countries like Nigeria. Those using Hive earnings as a means of survival are unlikely to make it big on the chain. This does not mean that those who do not need Hive earnings off the chain will become rich via Hive.
My rewards last year were a little over $800, despite making consistent withdrawals of my HBD earnings to meet life's demands. What I have not done is power down, and thankfully, the monthly hive power up has helped me to keep track of my HP growth.
**HP DELEGATIONS
My HP delegations seem a little overboard, however, as 85% of my HP has been delegated for a few reasons, as below. My first delegation was in order to promote my posts, especially through pixresteemer. My major delegation was in September 2023. The communities I delegated to were because I was active in them, and it was the best way to support them. A few earnings come in here and there daily from these communities, but I would say they are rather negligible. What satisfies me is the feeling of being a part of something great by supporting other authors through my delegations, even when I am not voting consistently. Along the line, my delegations to and
increased from 200 HP (September) and 250 HP (November), respectively, to 500 HP each a week ago. This means much more daily rewards than before, and looking at the worth of the rewards as Leo 🦁 and zing tokens have been encouraging for me. Delegating to these communities has been significantly rewarding and, in a way, better than leaving them as HP when my votes barely contribute significantly to their contents.
My goal to build my HP still remains, even though my progress is snail-like. Acquiring tokens for future prospects has been a hobby for me. I hope someday soon I can boast of more than 10,000 HP and 5000 Leo tokens. This is my long-term focus, even though I would not encourage anyone to do that at the detriment of his or her health. Eat today, as tomorrow is not guaranteed yet. Eat minimally and frugally to leave a little for tomorrow. Slow and steady, a little from everything with prospects. I would be stating my target as it relates to today's economy: have at least 10,000 HP, 5000 liquid tokens, 2000 HBD savings, 5000 Leo tokens, and 10,000 Zing tokens within the next two years. This, of course, would mean limiting my withdrawal of earnings and re-investing them in the chain. The above could be likened to a money tree. The rich get richer, and the poor may continue in his circle unless drastic steps or luck (for those prepared for it) come knocking.
