Here is my response to this daily prompt This is following on with the same theme as my post yesterday.
Stitch.
Immediately when I read "Stitch" as the daily prompt, I think of "stitch up". So much of the world today is trying to stitch up the common man. Big business do it all the time, with programmed obsolescence, convincing marketing and easy credit. They trap us in to the consumer cycle, and con us into thinking we need the latest and greatest, while also making sure the last product we bought is failing so we have little choice but to upgrade.
Just yesterday, I pre-ordered the new Samsung Galaxy S10 phone. My phone is slowly failing, the battery life is getting shorter and shorter. I know that I could get it fixed, and cling on to it for another year or so, but I have been sucked in by the marketing and committed to spending an extra $60 or $70 per month for the next two years just to have the new phone. Still, despite knowing that I ave been stitched up, and the cost being a stretch on my budget, I am excited. I am looking forward to the better cameras and exploring the crypto wallet they have included but massively downplayed to avoid scaring the masses.
This is just another financial drain, and just one example of the stitch up from big business to keep their consumers trapped in debt, and eager to keep the consumerism cycle going. There are so many other examples I could give. Banks issuing credit cards, and consistently offering limit increases and reward points for spending. This traps people in a debt spiral, and increases our dependency on the status quo fiat system. Another stitch up.
Then there is politics, and no matter what country you are in and what political system you are living under, the government has you stitched up. Taxes, taxes, taxes. Wasteful spending, corruption in many places, and a lack of proper leadership from our"leaders" mean once again that we are stitched up in broken systems that survive by controlling the population.
I can't wait to dig myself out of debt, and escape some of the "stitch up" traps that are an everyday feature of our modern world. Not sure about the political status quo, but I am very hopeful that crypto may allow for some economic freedom and opportunities for a better life for many of us, particularly those of us that have stuck out the last 12 months of decline, and will be much stronger and better placed for the recovery that I feel is underway.
The shift in focus from speculation and short term trading to a longer term, build for the future approach that seems to be underway at the moment should set us up for a solid period of growth, and a chance for many of us to improve our life and escape from some of the "stitch up's" we have allowed ourselves to be trapped by. At least there is a growing awareness that the current ways, the old fiat system isn't working, and now with crypto we actually have an alternative that hasn't been available till now.
Thanks for reading, hope you enjoyed my random ramble. (It definitely went for more than 5 minutes). If you want to try a freewrite, check out for the latest prompt.
Have a great day,
John.
