Hello steemers, I will begin by introducing myself, my name is Jose Chiva Cerdán, I am 22 years old and I am originally from the city of Castellón (Spain)
I’ll show you some photos about this place.
Castellón de la Plana, more commonly known as "Castellón," is the Capital of the province of Castellón, in the Valencia region. The town of some 175,000 inhabitants is situated approximately 65 kilometres north of Valencia city.
A walking route around Castellón
Image of Plaza Mayor
Plaza Mayor is the place to start any visit to Castellón.
The original Santa Maria Cathedral dates from the 12th century and had extensive reformations in the 14th Century following a fire.
The cathedral and its adjacent bell tower had to be completely rebuilt after suffering extensive damage during the Spanish Civil War in 1939.
The bell tower is separated from the main body of the church. This octagonal-shaped edifice was built in the sixteenth century and is known locally as 'El Fadri'.
Image of the Fadrí
El Fadrí, also known as the Fadri Tower, is perhaps the most emblematic building in Castellón and, sometimes, it is called the "Castellón Inclined Tower" due to its slight inclination.
Image of the Town Hall of Castellón
The Castellon town hall, the former Palacio Municipal, is a building of cultural interest. Plans were first drawn up for its construction in 1687, by Gil Torralba, the city’s master builder. The first stone, however, wasn't laid until 1689 with the work being completed by the Serrano family.
Image of the Central Market
It is the place to see local products closely. The building dates from the beginning of the 20th century. It's where tourists usually buy souvenirs.
Image of the liberal Wall
The next stop is the Liberal Wall. As its name suggests, this is the only place in Castellón where you can see remains of the old city wall.
Image of La llotja del Carmen
La llotja del Carmen was declared a historical and artistic monument in 1984 and is now part of the Jaume I University, where exhibitions and cultural activities take place.
Image of the post office building
The post office has three floors and was built in 1932, and is a good example of a modernist building in the city.
Image of the old casino
A palatial yellow building, which was completely renovated in 1922 and still retains that character of the 20s.
Now it is an elegant restaurant with a beautiful garden.
Image of the main theater
The main theater is also a place worth seeing. Completed in 1894 in neoclassical style, the theater is located next to a lively and picturesque square, the Plaza de la Paz. A great place to have a coffee and / or drink in one of the many cafes.
Image of Huertos Hogueros square
Apart from all the street art that spans Castellón, there are several sculptures by the imaginative regional artist Ripollés, including that of the above image, located in the Plaza Huerto Sogueros.
Image of the Ribalta Park
In 1868, the city council decided to build a walk to commemorate the painter Ribalta. This walk became the Ribalta Park. A beautiful Mediterranean park that offers a lot of vegetation and shade on a hot summer day.
Now, tell me, what do you think of Castellón?
