There are some places that instantly transport you to another era and it's like stepping into a different dimension when we visit Smolenice Castle last June 2023.Tucked away among the gentle slopes of the Little Carpathians in Slovakia. The locals call it Malé Karpaty and it means Little Carpathians. And because of their gentle and lower peaks compared to Slovakia’s other mountain ranges the High Tatras.
Smolenice village is a favorite spot for hikers and nature lovers, thanks to its surrounding nature reserves that lies within a Protected Landscape Area. Wrapped in magic and history, the castle and towers it truly felt like a dream made real.It was captivating, magical, unforgettable and impossible to resist. It rained on our way to the castle and adding a charm to the adventure. Not heavy rain but we were there already and we continue to visit the castle, rain or shine. It was a cool, raining and breezy morning when we drove toward the village of Smolenice.
One step closer seeing the castle.🏰
The road curved gently through the countryside, across the landscape line of trees. My husband parked his card and our journey to the castle requires a pleasant bit of hiking. An effort to make before you see the castle as part of the adventure. But the stunning views that keeps us engaged with nature.
As we got closer to the castle, we slowly came into view and its tall tower dominating the surrounding forest. It was majestic and as if it had been part of the valley for long years.
The view outside the gate took our breath away again and absolutely majestic. In that moment proved that the beauty around us was real. And we felt so magical and unforgettable right before our eyes. We were living in that moment we never forget. Dominating the skyline, the castle was encircled by vibrant greenery and gentle slopes. There was an immediate welcoming aura and serene atmosphere that made you want to stay. I felt like I was in a beautiful and step into a waking fantasy. Another memory to my collection of Slovakian castles. Stepping through the stone archway of Smolenice Castle felt like walking straight into my fantasy dream of being a princess and the stone guardian guarded the entrance of the castle.
The castle could only be explored with a guide and led through the castle’s authentic hallways and each step taking us deeper into its history. We stepped over cobblestone paths and through grand wooden doors. opened to a courtyard that felt like a step back in time full of history. The rooms were filled with antique furniture, portraits, chandeliers, and old strollers. Nothing grand in their interior and the castle is property of the Slovak Academy of Sciences and serves now as a conference centre.
And my favorite part was the tower view. And visiting the castle would be complete without climbing the tower. As we made our way up, the spiral staircase and each steps revealed a new angle of the castle grounds. We caught breathtaking views of the green gardens below that framed beautifully by towering windows.
When we finally reached the top, the view revealed a stunning panorama of Smolenice and the village wrapped in a blanket of nature’s endless trees and open meadows. It gives us a lasting impression and it was so magnificent. The air felt clean and cool because of the smell from the forest. A sense of perfect serenity and completing the castle's enchanting presence. We took our time by snapping photos and savoring the beauty around us. It felt so far away from the noise and a perfect escape into calmness and history.
We were going to explore the castle grounds and walked around the castle gardens. It was beautifully maintained the wide lawns, stone benches, and tall trees providing shade. Blended perfectly with the castle’s stone walls the colors of nature.
Though not the grandest or most recognized castle in Slovakia but its charm creates memories leaving an unforgettable impression. 💕
