Los riñones de los gatos suelen ser propensos a flejar con el tiempo debido a una mala alimentación donde los productos secos pueden hacer que el gato no consuma la cantidad de líquidos necesarios a pesar de que lo veas tomando agua seguido.
Hacen cálculos renales con mucha facilidad y con el tiempo desarrollan insuficiencia renal acortando su vida en gran medida.
Las croquetas de supermercado terminan siendo un veneno para nuestros gatos, ellos son 100% carnívoros y no necesitan de dietas altas en granos (carbohidratos) como son estos alimentos secos que nos venden que suelen ser bajos en proteínas, altos en carbos dañando sus riñones.

Supermarket croquettes end up being poison for our cats, they are 100% carnivorous and do not need diets high in grains (carbohydrates) such as these dry foods that they sell us that are usually low in protein, high in carbohydrates, damaging their kidneys.

Antes de yo manejar esta información les compraba croquetas de "buena calidad" pero igual les deterioraba los riñones, taponamiento de uretra y hasta cirugías.
Desde que les cambié la dieta a proteínas de alta calidad frescas, un buen balance de pescados, carnes y vísceras con una pequeña dosis de algún vegetal que sí puedan digerir (el equivalente a lo que un roedor o un ave pueda albergar en su estómago y que al gato no le afecte) y sus desparasitaciones frecuentes más nunca he llevado a mis gatos a emergencias veterinarias por problemas digestivos ni renales.
Ellos merecen tener una buena alimentación con productos que su organismo si pueda digerir y que ellos en la naturaleza obtienen según lo que su cuerpo les pida.
Un gato tampoco debe comer una o dos veces al día, el funcionamiento de su organismo los obliga a comer varias veces para mantenerse saludables y felices.

El manejo de sus alimentos también es vital, deben pasar por una cadena de frío y congelamiento adecuado, evita darles las proteínas descongeladas venidas de supermercados o tiendas. Mantenla congeladas mínimo 4 días para reducir la carga bacteriana. No les des desperdicios de carnicerías o pescaderías, compra carnes de calidad aptas para el consumo humano, puedes pasarlas por cocción ligera para matar microorganismos o bacterias pero sin cocinar mucho para que no pierdan nutrientes.se debe evitar darles sal, azúcares, aliños, adobos etc.
El agua de los gatos siempre debe permanecer limpia y fresca ya que odian tomar agua sucia. Los platos donde comen deben ser preferiblemente de acero inoxidable y limpiarse con cada puesta de alimentos.
Sus cajas de arena deben limpiarse con frecuencia y es recomendable tener al menos 2 cajas de arena por gato en promedio.
Las proteínas que mis gatos comen a diario y que me piden entre 3 ó 5 veces al día con raciones controladas consta de:
- pescados azules, pescados blancos
- carnes rojas de calidad
- hígados y corazones de pollo
- paté de hígado hecho por mí misma con una pequeña ración de zanahoria.
Los gatos solo comerán cuando sientan hambre real y por ello pueden pedirme comida desde 3 veces mínimo a 5 máximo.

The handling of their food is also vital, they must go through a cold chain and adequate freezing, avoid giving them thawed proteins from supermarkets or stores.
