If you've been following my blog recently, then you know that I've been going through a bit of a tumultuous time recently. As has been the case quite often over the last couple of years, when I've noticed intense things coming up in my life (and often in those around me), shortly thereafter I have the current astrology come to my awareness and it always seems to match up pretty clearly. As someone who didn't believe in astrology at all for a LONG time, it's been very interesting seeing how often it does offer clarity.
My Astrology
So, the above image is my natal chart, thanks to Astrotheme. There is a LOT of stuff to look at there, but a couple of the important pieces are that my Sun (and Jupiter & Mercury) are in Taurus, and my Moon & Pluto are in Scorpio... Scorpio & Taurus of course being polar opposites in the charts, it's also interesting that it's not just that my sun & moon are opposed, but my Mercury (1st planet) and Pluto (last planet) are opposed as well. I'd like to share a few of the little pieces that this site shares as to the meanings of these alignments, before moving on to why I brought it up now:
Sun in Taurus
You spend your fortune and your energy advisedly. You are realistic and you distrust revolutions, sudden changes and love at first sight. You are very attached to your roots and you create a steady basis for yourself. You may be considered to be stubborn and you grant your confidence after thorough reflection only. “Resistance” is Taurus’ keyword. This sign is believed to be untiring, hard-working and stable to the utmost. People readily credit you with the ability to remind everyone of the necessities of concrete situations and to moderate people’s excesses. In principle, you are apt for long-term management, you can protect the foundations of an activity as the reliable guardian of assets and the guarantor for stability. Your distrust for novelties is your strength. It requires much more than an alluring idea to persuade you to change your direction. Scepticism is a quality here: it is safer to take advantage of past experiences rather than to rely on very hypothetical sporadic strokes of luck. Taurus is not a weather wane! However, it is important that you learn to question yourself and to respond to new opportunities in a timely manner.
Moon in Scorpio
On the day and at the time of your birth, the Moon was in the sign of Scorpio. Your instincts deeply influence your thinking process and your actions. There are a lot of impulsiveness and violence in you. But they are only the other side of the coin of you direct and innate receptivity that gives you the amazing ability to perceive what is really at stake in any given situation. You also have extraordinary psychological skills. You are impervious to prevailing trends and tastes and you prefer to create a unique lifestyle for yourself alone. You are very selective in your intimate sphere and you accept as friends only the persons who can be naturally integrated in your quite special realm. You carefully maintain your distance with all intruders. Closeness needs time.
Mercury in Taurus
Mercury describes your relations, your communication skills and the way you relate to the external world. However, other astrological elements also influence these areas. The sign Mercury occupies is significant only if Mercury is part of your planetary dominantes. In your chart, Mercury is in Taurus. You need to ascertain the worth of whatever you want to assimilate. You display caution in the areas of relationship and the integration of knowledge. You do not let anything threaten what is already acquired and you never question your certainties. You strive to reinforce your positions with moderation and good sense. The bases of your relationship are solid, your friendships are lasting and your fields of interest, patiently investigated. You may have to show more flexibility.
Pluto in Scorpio
The planet Pluto symbolizes deep disruptions and upheavals, domination and sexual instincts, and the inner power we have in ourselves. Pluto destroys in order to reconstruct and he provokes painful crises that are needed in metamorphosis. Pluto is our deepest instincts’ brutal force. It is the hidden and unconscious violence that can explode in us with incredible intensity before being projected in our actions; in itself, the planet is not negative: the might and the intensity of its energy are beyond the conceivable but it can be funnelled. Pluto is the only possibility we have at our disposal to overcome our inner blocks and to eliminate outgrown situations that have become inextricable. Pluto’s energy is valuable because of its usefulness for the irreversible destruction of what constitutes a problem and not because of its negative side and its perversity. Pluto allows to reconstruct and to regenerate parts of our personality or whole stretches of our life, provided that we manage to funnel his wild energy and to step back. It is impossible to tame this energy, given its essence. However, it is possible to take advantage of it for a precise aim, through a temporary identification of some parts of us with this energy. In such a case, the outcome is our final evolution and even, our transformation. In your natal chart, Pluto’s house position is more important than his sign position because, like Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune, Pluto is a slow planet. Many people born in the same period have Pluto in the same sign. This is the reason why the sign occupied here is less meaningful than when it is occupied by the so-called fast planets, i.e. the Sun, the Moon, Mercury, Venus and Mars. Therefore, some caution is to be exercised as you read what follows. The sign positions of Uranus, Neptune and Pluto have a collective meaning. They do not influence your personality and they are not to be really taken into account, unless they are involved in numerous aspects or when they emphasize a personal point of your natal chart such as your Ascendant’s ruler, an angular planet, i.e. a planet near the Ascendant, the Midheaven, the Nadir or the Descendant. In such cases, the activity of the slow planet is very highlighted. Pluto in Scorpio is in his own sign, and according to the Tradition, he is most potent and at his best; sexuality and fantasies, powerful libido and instincts, strong domineering tendencies, outbursts of passions…
The Current Astrology
The reason I wanted to share my particular astrology is because I just recently received some info from a friend on what's going on currently, with the Full Moon coming up this Wednesday, the 24th. The moon is in Taurus... and the sun is in Scorpio... That's right, the world is currently flipped the opposite of me. After a few weeks of confusion, lack of clarity, emotional instability, and generally just some rough times, this feels like one of those "Aha!" moments. My friend Karuna, who runs the crystal grid activations here in Portland, is the one who shared this glimpse with me (as she usually is), and the post she shared was even titled The Desire to Know and the Path of Illumination.. certainly seems relevant. Here are a couple snippets from different astrologers:
From Cosmos of Astrology:
When the Full Moon is taking place in the Sign of Taurus, the tension felt is the result of the contrast between our need to feel emotionally safe in practical and simple terms, while at the same we want to change, we want deep emotional stimulation and are drawn to complexity of emotions.
It can also mean that circumstances may indeed be transforming, stirring inside us feelings of insecurity and the need to be grounded again, the need to hold on to something dear that gives a sense or a pretext of simple security.
This second case is somewhat closer to the energy of the Full Moon in Taurus that takes place on the night of the 24th of October and that brings high tension in the way we relate.
The circumstances under this Full Moon in Taurus are unsettling to our stability and serenity.
This is a Full Moon that has the potential to deeply affect relationships or how we relate. It is charged with highly – strung emotions, brings the need for freedom and for expression of our individuality.
The only stabilizing factors in the chart of this Full Moon in Taurus, is that Saturn is making a trine aspect to the Moon and Uranus as well as a sextile to Venus. These aspects somehow ground the disruptive energy and work beneficially for relations that otherwise could very easily break under the stress of this Full Moon.
Emotions, though tense, can be patient, mature and we may manage the sudden in a responsible manner.
From Thought Catalog:
This full moon is all about re-establishing our excitement for life, all around change, and moving forward with peace.
When Venus is in opposition Uranus we are faced with changes in our romantic life, our financial status, and all of our emotions. Allow movement to do what fluidity must do during this time. The October 2018 full moon also affects Saturn, which levels out the impulsive nature of Uranus. Saturn energy during this time will turn unexpected changes into opportunities as well as all uncertainty into reassurance and commitment.
Earlier this month we had a new moon that focused all about planting seeds around living here in the present. The new moon was all about making peace right here and right now. This month’s full moon is asking that you harvest the seeds that you planted earlier in the month. Not only are you being called to make peace with your present, but you are being called to bring peace with you as you move forward and endlessly evolve.
You are being asked to get rid of absolutely everything that does not serve your greater good. You are being asked to delight yourself into your current reality, even if it’s a circumstance that once seemed less than ideal. You are being asked to move forward with grace, to dip your toes into the unknown with the utmost faith, to lay your burdens and your past to rest, and to find absolute joy as you journey forward.
My life & what's been happening
I'm pretty sure that one of my biggest issues over the last few weeks was diving down the vaccine rabbit hole in order to educate myself and hopefully share what I learn with others to help move that conversation in a more logical, fact-based way. Needless to say, diving into that topic brought me to a LOT of really heavy, sad, painful, and disturbing topics (as you can see if you read episode 1). Besides historically having issues with depression, with Autumn often being a low point, diving into this history really triggered some potent depression for me, which took a few days to balance out.
For much of this year, I've felt a lack of clarity around what direction I'm heading in my life now, where the balance is between being of service and creating space for myself, and what the most effective way is for me to help bring more peace & freedom into the world. The other day, while reading Sacred Journey of the Peaceful Warrior, I had some wonderful insights.
At this point my mood & energy level have pretty well stabilized, I've got clarity about what questions to ask at least, and I'm feeling much more open to getting projects moving, to connecting with people (I was pretty reclusive for a while), and overall I'm loving life!
