Hey everyone! I've started a new book recently and I'm really excited about it. I've been diving deeper into economics and data analysis recently and have been loving the parallels that you can draw to the real world.
There's so much practicality in learning economics, social behavior, data, etc. In general, it's about changing the way your brain works and the way your mind operates.
The deeper you can make these fundamental connections, the better off you will be in any situation.
When people ask me what I do, it's hard to answer it. I do so many things, but my main focus and "North Star" in life is the idea of becoming the best version of myself so that I can succeed in every situation.
No matter what kind of situation, business, market, etc. you put me in, I'll find a way to pull through and succeed. That's just who I am and that's who I aspire to be every morning when I get out of bed.
Nassim Nicholas Taleb is one of these people as well. Call him a Polymath, if you will. He's the author of several books and each has had a huge impact on the world and many of our greatest thinkers.
Skin in the Game is a book that discusses many different ideas, but so far, I've found it to be a very fundamental look at just about every interworking of society and of our individual lives.
I'm barely 20 pages in and I'm already entrenched in all the various ideas that Taleb is sharing and I know that you'll find them compelling as well.
It's not just a must read for people in the crypto space, it's a must read for everyone. Period.
Here's a quote from the beginning that helps explain the idea of Skin in the Game:
“Skin in the Game is about four topics in one: a) uncertainty and the reliability of knowledge (both practical and scientific, assuming there is a difference), or in less polite words bull***t detection, b) symmetry in human affairs, that is, fairness, justice, responsibility, and reciprocity, c) information sharing in transactions, and d) rationality in complex systems and in the real world. That these four cannot be disentangled is something that is obvious when one has…skin in the game."
I'll dive into many of these ideas and the others that Taleb puts forth in this book as I read and make the posts that follow, but I want to leave you with this idea - which I found to be very powerful for us as we're all involved in the crypto space:
“Don’t tell me what you “think,” just tell me what’s in your portfolio.”
Having skin in the game means that you have something to lose. When you have something to lose, you also probably have something to gain.
What this all means is that your decisions and mindset are easily discernible by the "skin" and the "game" that you've chosen. Whatever you may be invested in and whatever asset class or vehicle it may be, it tells a lot of your character and values.
If you want to know how to invest or what to buy, don't ask people what they recommend. Look at where their skin in the game lies!
