Christmas isn't too far away, and released a good prompt asking us to talk about our Winter Bucket List. I thought it was a pretty cool prompt, and on the subject of things to do this winter - especially on the run-up to Christmas - it's a good chance to list a few things.
Here's The Prompt Post If You'd Like To Get Involved.
Catch A Cold
I'll start with this one because I figured I might as well start strong with an activity I've already crossed off the list.
So, every winter and every spring, without fail, I tend to get a cold, most of the time it's mild, but in 2019, around October I caught a bad dose and was literally in the worst shape ever. It was so nasty, and it was so bad that when I recovered from it I completely forgot about it until - a few months later - I was reminded of it by a friend. It was nasty. The week or two I had it revolved around sleeping, and occasionally managing to eat something before going back to sleep.
Anyway, currently I have one, and it's okay but annoying. The bad thing is that baby got it too, and he's coughing a bit and spewing when he has a bit of a bad cough. We brought him to the care doc and he said that it was nothing to worry about, which was a relief to hear.
Visit Santa
We have baby booked in, to go and visit Santa in one of the local shopping centres next Saturday, which should be a bit of fun and a chance to get a little photo of him with the Coke can in Human form, himself.
The baby obviously won't remember it, although, he may end up with a phobia of old unkempt men if this guy turns out to be anything like the good ole Santa's from back in the day.
Cheerful portly lads who smelled of cigarettes and drink. Thems the Santa's I like. No milk and cookies for them fine fellows, and they may even give you a little sup if the folks aren't watching, and it'll be our little secret. Probably why I can't drink Whiskey at all.
Repressed childhood memories aside, it'll be nice to go down with the baby and get a picture taken for his first Christmas.
A Cold Night of Drinking
One thing I love to do around this time of year is to go to the pub, fairly close to Christmas. It seems like every year around this time a bunch of people come back to town and it's a good chance to see some old faces and have a catch-up.
There's something nice about going out when it's freezing and getting inside a nice warm pub, especially if the fire is lit inside, and it's fairly packed. It's also nice to be able to fully relax, safe in the knowledge that you have everyone sorted out for Christmas and there's no more shopping to do.
I love giving presents to people, but my god, I hate figuring out what to get them. With some people it's torturous.
Something popped into my head here, but I figured instead of making it, it's on separate item on the list, I would just include it here. End the night in the pub with a double baileys and brandy. Oh, something else, baby Guinness shots, that's what I'm looking forward to as well. I may start talking to lads, I have this night all worked out, yet I have no idea if anyone will even be up for it.
But, yeah. Bailey's and Brandy, or maybe a Whiskey - it's literally the only way I can drink whiskey. Anyway, that's what I need to pick up next time I'm in the shop. It's such a Christmas-tasting drink, but in all honesty, I could drink them in any season.
Opening Presents
I'm not even that excited about presents, I tend to get more excited for people to see what I got them. This year is a little bit different though, because with it being Baby's first Christmas, I really want it to be good, and I'm looking forward to seeing his reaction to opening his gifts. It'll also be interesting to see if he's able to tear the wrapping paper.
That's pretty much everything I can think of. Not really sure if there's anything else. Knowing me, however, I'll post this and the instant I do something else will pop into my head.
